    No, not sipgate.

    Betamax == voipcheap sipdiscount voipbuster
all those with the 120 day credit expiry

sipgate are great for incoming calls, but their call rates for outgoing are not too great.

Yes, the plan is to use it mainly for incoming calls.

I registered this morning and it all seems to be running quite nicley with X-lite. I haven't had to pay out anything so far. I got a number with the right code for my area too. Voipcheap did not give me this.

Voipcheap only have area codes for major areas, Sipgate has area codes for all areas.

I use VoIP Stunt and Sipgate, Sipgate I've had since not long after they launched, only using it for incoming and calls to 0800/0808 numbers.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

My apologies is this is old news but I just got an email form Voipcheap telling me my credit is about to expire:

VoipCheap credit is valid for 120 days.
Your credit will expire in 30 days.
We advise you to use your credit before it expires and/or buy new credit so your current credit will not expire.

Just found this forum. Can I come back on this post (no.36) to clear up a couple of points ? First, what is the minimum amount you can pay VoIPCheap ? Second, having paid that, is any credit not spent in the previous 120 days carried forward to the new 120 day period or is it lost ? The last 7 words of the quote suggests it is carried forward but the previous sentence says clearly it expires.

Yes your credit vanishes unless you put more money in before the dates get down to zero. If you put more money in the credit goes up to what you had left plus what you have just put in. If you only use viopcheap, voipstunt etc. for free calls all you can do is use the credit up on 0845 or 0870 numbers.

Thanks for that - good to hear. Do you happen to know what the minimum top-up amount is for each 120-day period?

PS - it's OK - just occurred to me to check by going to "My Account" and then "Buy credit". The answer is £10. So it costs £2.50 a month for all my landline calls plus an increasing amount of money to spend on 0845, 0870 calls & very rarely, (if ever) a paid-for international call. Too much of this "FREE" business being flashed all over voip web sites ?

BTW it is £10 + VAT, so you need to add another £1.75 (i.e you pay £11.75 every 120 days).Personally I still think its good value.

Is it UK VAT they are using now, I know when I topped up with them, when it was only £1 credit, they were using Swiss VAT @ 16%.

You may be right there!! They do say they will add VAT, however I can't remember how much it was. Also just been on https://www.voipcheap.com and if using there, the credit only lasts 90 days.

  • By signing up with voipcheap.co.uk you get completely free calls to UK landlines and to a host of other countries BUT you have to buy credit for chargable calls and you are resticted to calling from a USB phone or a headset connected to your computer. If you prefer the freedom of a chordless phone they do offer to connect your call at their rates (i.e. 0p/min in many cases) via your landline phone but with an addittional 3p connection charge.

HOWEVER, on the voipcheap.co.uk homepage there is (currently) the facility to make a call via your ordinary phone *completely* free - no need to sign-up, log-in or buy any credit. All you have to do is type the number of your landline phone in one box and the destination number in another box, then click "call". Your landline phone rings and when you pick up you are then connected to the number you are calling. No idea how long this option will be available - make the most of it!
