I think you are doing a great job Mooloo - you are obviously a very caring person and is looking for the best option for their beloved dog.
Good luck with the new possibility

Thanks, dont feel or think I deserve much praise. But thank you anyway. I feel guilty that I didnt forsee the problems with the girls and that I didnt search long enough for a place that would take the dog. But I know that I did what I thought was the best at the time.
While duke has been with my BF I thought that I really might be able to keep him. If BF would continue to help me. But I am not being fair on him, its selfish of me. Obviously 99% of his care was handed over to my BF when he didnt really want or feel he could do the best for Duke, but he did take him for me, and for that I am truely grateful. I love them both!
I have to confess to having stalled over the last couple of days and I should have been more proactive. By the time I got back from work today the Dogs trust number that I have the place was closed. Closed on Wednesday. RSPCA was also closed and a press this or that button but no criteria to speak unless it was an act of cruelty or neglect. dont fit into that side.
I do love my dog, and I am truely heart broken at having to re-home him. But I cannot find anyother solution, as I cannot afford to move again, and I cannot expect the family to keep upsticks all the time. Everyone needs a permanant home, including Duke.
The dinner call I must go.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

My heart goes out to you, if I could have fostered him I wouldn't have hesitated to help. I was in this situation two years ago & had to rehome a cat & it was that or be out on the streets, not good for me or the cat if i'd kept him. I hope you sort something soon.

I can really feel your pain
You are only doing your best for Duke but i understand how heartbreaking all of this is .
I have a lovely dog and a new puppy and they show so much love to us and the thing that is heartbreaking is people never know what going to happing in there life's and you have touched my heart , I bet all you want to do is cry but you are putting Duke first because you are looking for the best home you can find for him and he will be well looked after I'm sure but i know you are going though hell .
Could Duke's new owners send you letters and photos because we are doing this for our puppy Meg , when we were asked if we would do this we said yes because we cannot thank them enough for bring Meg into our liefs and I'm sure Dukes family would feel the same.
I'm sorry if this would be too upsetting for you to do .

To the OP - I really hope that there is some way that you can keep your beloved dog but if not there has been some great advice already given on this thread. Dogpages and The Refuge are both really useful resources for finding help and advice on rehoming.

Slightly off topic here but I would just like to express my dismay at this post:

I have no personal experience with them but Many Tears are, I'm sure, an excellent rescue. I quite agree that puppy farms should be stopped but that is not going to happen overnight. What would you rather happened to the ex breeding girls in the meantime - should they just be shot as they have reached the end of their 'usefulness'?

I have friends who have rehomed ex-breeding girls and it is wonderful to see how these poor girls have blossomed now they have been given the chance of love and a normal life. Until such time as puppy farms are outlawed, I, for one, am extremely grateful that rescues such as Many Tears are there to help pick up the pieces.

Sorry i know this isn't the place for this but feel i have been done a injustice.
Actually if you read my post you would have understood what i have said and meant...
Of course no dog should be put down just for not having a home, that is not what i said, your talking to a major animal rights person here
...but if these horrid places get "friendly" with a rescue centre, that keeps bailing them out, by taking the "left overs" at 8wks (as the breeders view them) because they cant be bothered to find homes for them, or time and time again taking in these beautiful but used neglected animals, no questions asked, then the quicker they can get on with the next batch of puppies, and choosing there next victim for the breeding, That is why you don't see the rspca or dogs trust constantly taking on these dogs, as in a way it is actually supporting the farms, of course it wont change like you say till the law does, or a licence system is brought in, even if the rescue charged for this "service" maybe it would make the breeders think twice about how quickly they breed/renew.
I wish there were more people like your friends that are willing to give an animal a second change at life, the rewards of having a dogs love and trust, that has never given it before is overwhelming.

Anyway mooloo,
I hope your answer is just around the corner, I too have been in the situation, where you have to make great sacrifices, quickly, for the sake of family or having a roof over your loved ones heads, I don't think until you are faced with homelessness (even if you rent) you completely know the stomach wrenching feeling until you are faced with it, saying you will feel better about it, or you had no other choice, is as good as saying forget about the negative/judgemental comments, easy to say, but not easy to do when you feel at the bottom of your strength and abilities anyway.

why is it when we are at are lowest points, we have to make the hardest most painful choices

Have you looked into fostering?
or would that maybe more painful for you?
I too know the feeling of being trapped where you have had to move too, because of not being able to afford to do anything else, that's why i thought of foresting, as there would be no time limit on it, and we never know what is coming our way in the future.
It seems so unfair that your landlord has a dog but wont let you,
I know this might sound strange, but have you tried posting an ad on
free adshttp://uk.freeads.net/
pre loved http://www.preloved.co.uk/
classifieds http://www.classifieds.co.uk/
Gumtreee http://www.gumtree.com/other_gumtrees.html
they all do animal rehoming sections and alot of people see the ads as the sites are free
there is also

these might be worth an email, even to put you in touch with someone else.

Is there any way of putting a picture up of him?
maybe as your avatar picture? so we can all fall in love with him!
Just a thought but would you like me to post a "help" on dog pages for you (save you registering) as you sound like your at the end of coping ((hug)) I could maybe link through to this thread too, If so p.m me so we can get email addresses and you could possibly send me a pic to put on with the post.

Hi

Thanks for the links. I wish I knew how to do things like that. Anyway, one of them is very close to me so I will ring them tomorrow and see if they can help me. I am still going to try and arrange to get some photos of Duke on here, or a link to them somewhere, but I need DBF help to do that, hopefully over the weekend. As he does want the Dog rehomed asap.

thanks to all the other options. I will endevour to work my way through all the options as quickly as I can now. As time is slipping by and its not fair on duke, he will think he is back at home with DBF for good.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: For legal reasons I have to discourage swapping, buying and selling on the forum (please see this rule). While it can be a very useful way of saving money it relies on a certain amount of trust between members and as such can cause problems (and has in the past). If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

It's very kind of some of you to offer to take on Duke, but I am sure the above rule covers pets, so if we could keep to the topic of how Mooloo goes about re-homing Duke without such offers then that would be useful.

Apologies to the OP for straying off topic but I just wanted the opportunity to reply to Digitalsgirl who felt that I had done her an injustice.

Digitalsgirl - our feelings regarding puppy farms would appear to be exactly the same but as I stated before, this pratice is not going to end overnight. Until such time as the practice can be outlawed, what do you suppose will happen to the pups that are not moved on by their 'sell by date' or the ex-breeding girls? It really is a rather grim 'Catch-22' situation.

Lets suppose we take one puppy farm. In one year that could mean the end of usefulness for one breeding girl plus say ten puppies of various breeds that weren't sold by the puppy farmer. Multiply this by the number of puppy farms in the UK and you have quite a number of 'cast-offs.' You want rescues to refuse to take these dogs, so what happens to them? Does the fact that no-one would take the 'cast-offs' prevent the puppy farmer from continuing the breeding cycle? Absolutely not imho. Its all well and good slating the rescues for picking up the pieces but I feel that is grossly unfair unless you have some wonderful alternative that no-one else has thought of.

As an aside, given your views on puppy-farming, I find it quite staggering that you give a link to a website which although I'm sure does feature many reputable breeders - it is also inundated with ads from the sort of people churning out mass-produced puppies, exactly the kind of practice which you would like to see stopped.
• This discussion is not about mooloo buying/getting a puppy

It is about her needing to find a good home for him, so the links i have provided were for her to view and judge if she would like to place a advert on, given that she is so caring and sensible sounding, i am sure if any one contacted her from any advert she leaves, whether on these links or dog rescue, I believe that she would have the sense to "vet" the people and the home they are offering.

The kennel club itself gives out names of "puppy farms and bdb"
it is up to each individual and there common sense to judge whether where they are getting a puppy from is in fact a farm/bdb or not.

I expect these type to advertise in these places, however i dont agree that a rescue home should be in cahoots with them

but like i say this is my personal opinion, after a lot of research.

Like i said before this is not the place for this discussion

Moooloo I hope you have got some joy whether from the links i provided or not. I have been in a similar situation and know the feelings that you are going through.

i dont agree that a rescue home should be in cahoots with them

You are perfectly entitled to your opinion yet you have failed to offer any feasible alternative to the fate of these dogs

In one breath you are telling the OP to avoid a particular rescue because amongst other dogs available for rehoming are included ex-puppy farm dogs but in the next breath you are advocating they try a site where puppy farmers advertise. Your arguments do not seem to be particularly well thought out.

I will state my original point again - Many Tears are an excellent rescue and I would not hesitate to suggest to the OP (or anyone else in a similar situation for that matter) to contact them in her bid to gain assistance with rehoming her dog.
