  • Oh how sad that would break my heart, I really feel for you, If I was in that situation ( I would move hubby out) no really I would like him to go somewhere that I knew so that I could visit him from time to time and know he was well. I have an eight year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier and I call him my First child, I had him before my twins and as has been said I would go to the end of the earth to keep him infact I would never part with him (I couldn't) but I do undertand your situation and it must be terrible for you, but somehow someway can't they be an alternative.

Good luck with rehoming. This must be hard for you. Can you tell us how you are getting on? You could also try German Shepherd rescues and see if they can help as he is Alsation cross. Many, many people are looking for child-friendly kind dogs and to have such good toilet training is a bonus. I'm sure he will find a new home soon.
    Take care

To the OP - I really hope that there is some way that you can keep your beloved dog but if not there has been some great advice already given on this thread. Dogpages and The Refuge are both really useful resources for finding help and advice on rehoming.

Slightly off topic here but I would just like to express my dismay at this post:
Just my thoughts  but please dont consider many tears, their policies arent great, for example they regularly take in puppies/ex breeding dogs from the same puppy farms, time and time again, yes these dogs need a home too, but if you are giving the breeders a way to get rid of unwanted stock - as they see it, then they will never stop.

I have no personal experience with them but Many Tears are, I'm sure, an excellent rescue. I quite agree that puppy farms should be stopped but that is not going to happen overnight. What would you rather happened to the ex breeding girls in the meantime - should they just be shot as they have reached the end of their 'usefulness'?

I have friends who have rehomed ex-breeding girls and it is wonderful to see how these poor girls have blossomed now they have been given the chance of love and a normal life. Until such time as puppy farms are outlawed, I, for one, am extremely grateful that rescues such as Many Tears are there to help pick up the pieces.

Hoping you've managed to find a way to resolve this situation. We looked for ages when moving and most landlords refused pets so we ended up writing to them and eventually found a lovely home with a landlord who was willing to accept them all (lizard, hedgehog, fish and 2 dogs) Some private landlords will accept them if you pay a slightly higher bond, offer to have carpets cleaned or similar when you move out.
One day I might be more organised...........

Thanks everyone for your ideas. I am working my way through possibilities.! DBF still has duke at the moment, but its not easy as he is at work during the day, and his kids are at school. (When one of them isnt but hes either in bed or at work in the evenings,) so it means that he doesnt take the dog out. I appreciate the DBF point of view, but I do wish it was possible for him to stay there.
I had to move due to over crowding with the grandchildren and unfortunately the landlord has said no dog. He lives next door, so there is no way of getting around that one. He also has an alsation that roams free, all day and most of the evenings out there. So I wouldnt be able to let Duke out.!!
I cant as suggested move again. I have no money left what so ever to move again. Trying to find places that will take Housing Benefit was hard enough. I dont think I have the strength to move again,. But that doesnt mean that I am giving Duke up easily. Its breaking my heart just looking for places for him.
I am in the process of getting some photographs of him to put onto the site, or somewhere so people can see what hes like, I will do my best to get them back and on asap.
I was able to go and see him this weekend, and we went for a exercise walk in the fields and a good run after a tennis ball, in the cricket pitch near DBF home. He loves running after the ball, and is soon worn out and sleeps the rest of the evening after it!!.
I will keep everyone posted on how I am doing.
thanks again for all the options.

And if you don't like Dogpages (like me...) then try the Refuge - They're a really nice bunch and some of them might be able to help with an emergency home if need be...
And this one too. I like them both :D
  • my heart goes out to you totally.

but i would not be able to move somewhere that wouldnt take my dog - whatever the circumstances i would just keep looking.

i wish you well in your search and i hope duke finds a happy loving home xx

When there are six of you living in a 2 bedroomed flat, you might think differently. I had hoped that the landlord would change his mind. But he didnt.
Each persons circumstances are different. I am bankrupt. I lost everything. I was lucky to keep Duke as long as I did. But I cant keep looking for better accommodation. In Oxford its not going to come along.
I had the choice of my Grandchildren living with me or going into care? Sorry but they are also family. When I accepted this place a friend had said they could have the dog. When we were supposed to hand Duke over they changed their minds. I was already tied up in this rental agreement.
