Need to have new home for my dog.

I have a 2 year old alsation/labrador cross. He is a wonderful energetic dog. Good with the family. We have two small babies and he is fine with them. Unfortunately as we had to find a new home (6 of us were in a 2 bed flat) we have been unable to take Duke with us. He is currently staying with a friend, but cannot stay there much longer. He is microchipped, has been spayed, and has been a very fit and healthy dog. We live in Oxford. I dont actually know where to really start to find him a loving home, where he can be exercised, loved and wanted. I love him dearly, as do all of our family, however the landlord here will not let me have a dog, and I didnt really have much choice in where i could live. Is there anyone out there with some good advise that can tell me where I could turn to to find him a home.?
Currently I am destressed at the though of having to loose him completely, but my friend cannot keep him for me much longer.

Have you a Dogs Trust by you. They take dogs that new homes and they advertise that "they never put a healthy dog down". Its a cruel fact that some dogs homes to put them to sleep after a while.0

When the twins had their babies he took them in his stride as well.

That sucks, we spent so much longer looking for our house so that it had a big garden for the dogs! the things you do hey. Maybe ringing someone like the rspca might help, their website has a rehoming thing where you put in a postcode to find a home near you.

I have tried to get through to the Dogs Trust, but they put me on hold, and eventually cut me off. They close at 5 so I will have to try again tomorrow. I also have the phone number for the RSPCA from that link, thankyou. There was nowhere (at least I couldnt see it) about getting your animal rehomed, its all about adopting a dog, rehoming it with people as apposed to having to get him rehomed! Ah well hopefully I will get somewhere on the phone tomorrow. I hope to take a photo of him tomorrow,, and get that in the local pet shop, and also the newsagents maybe? Just worried I wont know who would have him, if he would be loved the way I love him, some people will think that I am stupid but I really have had him since a pup and he is part of my family.!!When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0

hi...have a look at this site. it is run by dogowners/rescuers and lists rescues all over the country.it's main aim is to find homes for dogs needing homes, mainly in rescue but also private homes. the site also has a forum where you can post about your dog (if you wish) and anyone looking for a dog can get in touch.
it is very friendly and the forum offers lots of advice and help to people.

I don't think the RSPCA handle 'hand-ins', but do look for your nearest rescue on DogPages like kimoffife mentions."No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin0

apreciate all the ideas. I have sent an email to bluecross, so I will see if I get a reply in the next day or so, meanwhile tomorrow I will ring a few of the headoffices of these places and see if they can help me. Thanks everyone. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0
