  • Well the wedding is this evening so I intentionally made sure that I 'forgot' about it so that I couldn't go out and buy an outfit! My plan is to wear dark blue skinny (ok slim!) cut jeans and a purple tunic top from New Look that I last wore in the summer (so realistically the chance of it actually fitting me now is slim to nil but don't want to try it on yet cause tescos and the 20% off clothes is still open!) and purple knee high boots or purple pumps - haven't decided yet. If the top doesnt' fit then I have a pink satin type top from Primark that I've never worn either. And I do have pink pumps to wear with that! (anyone noticing a theme!! LOL).

Anyway I went to tescos today under strict superivision by OH and only bought easter eggs a bottle of milk and a TV mag. Spent £7 and then another £4 on cigarettes.

OH is in disgrace so have managed to con him into buying us fish and chips for tea and then he is driving too and from the wedding and hopefully buying most of the drinks!! Tee hee!
  • My only other problem at the moment is because I have no money at all, I haven't bought the bride and groom their present yet! (they wanted donations to their honeymoon fund!). I didn't even get them a card. So I feel completely awful at the moment.
  • (((((((((((((((((((((((((truly.maddy.deeply)))))))))))))))))))))))))

Right, can you get them a card, do you have blank one you can use?

can you make one? is there anything hanging about that would make a present in your house (no one will know)

I know what you mean tho hon, I went to my friends wedding last year and just DID not have the money to give! I felt like Crap. so you aren't the only one.

Hope you manage to have a good time any way xxx
    Nevertheless she persisted.

I went shoppng with mother. I drove, but on her car and she paid for parking (she has waaaaaay more money than me and nothing really to spend it on) and lunch in Raymond Blancs (yum).

Mum bought me a Radley keyring (don't ask) and I bought a bargain Roxy sports wallet for skiing next week (no, I am not paying for the hol, OH is) and a Radiohead CD (£5)

    Total spends £9

Would normally be 10x that at least :polisheshalo:
  • From someone who got married last December, I so did not mind that some people didn't bring gifts. The day was so hectic and it was so lovely to see everyone there- I wouldn't have minded if no-one had given us a present (or money).

I've been incredibly good today- only spent £5 on a box of chocolates for my Granny's birthday- not a penny more. And nothing tomorrow either as the shops will be shut. Probably my cheapest weekend ever! Not going near shops works.

Well I don't know how I am supposed to actually stop spending. Today I had to collect my dry cleaning (2 coats that were being cleaned before being put away for the summer and the cost of joining the shop's priority club which gave me a good discount and will do on other stuff OH and I have to have dry cleaned before the summer) £30.50p. Easter egg for GD £5 plus £5X3 for GS's Easter instead of eggs. £5x4 for holiday money for GC as they go away next week for a few days. £8 for a raincoat for me from the charity shop where I work on Saturdays and £2 for 6 videos from the same place. Total £80.50p. TBH I am not so strapped for cash that I can't do this but I just wish ordinary living was a bit cheaper. To my mind the only 'un necessary' spending was the £10 in the charity shop. Or have I got this completely wrong??
Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot.

I tend to agree Ches - the cost of just living day to day is what gets you. Just when i think i don't need to spend any money, something "crops up" which isn't usually anything you might class as luxury but needs money ie; a birthday, son's guitar lesson, new cover for patio set as recent winds tore the other one to shreds. Then there's things like the dentist (thought that was free - yeah right!). Everything is just so expensive.

Anyway on the bright side, i won £10 on the lottery last nite - woohoo! Just daydreaming about what to spend it on! LOL!

Going to parents for lovely easter roast today (if it doesn't snow so hard that we can't get there) so no money spends for me today - although just thought will probably have to get cab home (you see - that's just crept in there when I thought i would be spending NOTHING today!)

Hey TMD how was the wedding? I agree with other poster about wedding presents - you invite people cos you want them to share your day not cos they are going to bring you a present. x
  • Morning all, and Happy Easter!

    Where to start?

Welcome Mille! You are number 49 of our little group! How to stop spending? That is indeed the question on everyone's lips! I'm sure if we knew none of us would be here!:p

Sohurt, I agree with Loopylu - it's far better to be in a position where you CAN stop the spending now, rather than being in debt and even more miserable.

Little Miss, I think it's important for us to draw a distinction between compulsive spending, and non-compulsive spending (and Ches too). I think what I see as compulsive spending is going into a shop with the intention of buying one thing, and coming out with six. Or not being able to walk past a shop without going in and buying something. For me, something as simple as the weekly food shop can turn into a spend-athon. Personally, it's that habit that I need to break. Spending money on what you need for the house, or dry cleaning isn't compulsive spending, it's just part of life.

tmd - how was the wedding? I bet you looked gorgeous whatever you wore! (Hope the hangover isn't too bad this morning!)

    got-it-spend-it - :T:T:T ('nuff said!)

I have a wee dilemma - my OH is taking me to a 4 start hotel for my birthday on Friday. In the back of my mind I'm thinking 'I need a new pair of boots (I haven't got any at the moment), I need something new to wear for the evening meal'. But I don't really think I do need anything new. So, like tmd I need your help here! What do I wear?

Have a good day one and all,

    good afternoon everyone

    member number 8 checking in

have been in hiding the past few days due to the shame I feel for overindulging.
have been using the money I got from my PPI misselling to buy things instead of paying off credit card. :o
spent £600 on new livingroom furniture - in all honesty we were going to get new furniture anyway as I have been living with hand me downs for last 5 years and desperatly want nice matching furnitiure. MFI have huge easter sale on so instead of costing £1200 it was half price.
then went to B and Q and spent £40 on cushions, £75 in argos on new rug and £25 on woolworths on 2 x poofs.

    damage - £740!

now - still have £300 left from last months wage in bank account - get paid on tuesday - dont have loan repayment as loan was redone this month and have one month break so thats £350 - also should be getting some back pay from work, roughly £300 so hoping it wont make too much a dent this month.

feel soooo bad as money could clear credit card this month if I wanted to. credit card is currently 0% for next 12 months so trying to justify it!!!!

feel such a failure - I knew if I didnt pay the money straight off the credit card I would find a way to spend it!!

    poo
  • Afternoon all!!

Well outfit. Wore something completely random that I hadn't even thought off, as the orginal outfit as usual, whilst looking nice in my head, in reality looked pants on!!

Wedding was lovely, friends looked gorgeous. TBH she didn't even realise that we came she was that overwhelmed with the amount of people there I think!! Still feel a little bad, but if I don't have any money, what can I do! didn't eat any of the buffet tho so felt slightly better.

Just got back from doing the rounds with the relatives and came home with about a zillion easter eggs that OH and I will have great fun eating!! LOL haven't spent a penny today, mainly cause the shops are closed! But need petrol, so will have to spent money tomorrow.

    Oh well!! LOL

Hope everyone has had a lovely day.
