  • Hi all,

I have been reading all your messages and it is sooooooooo good to know that I am not the only person in the world who can't help but spend. I sat down this morning and worked out how much I spent last month, I managed to do 33 switch transaction alone - it is looney tunes! I was supposed to be saving to pay for our new bathroom but managed to spend it all (again!) I have been in terrible debt before and would spend more than I earned but now I just spend what is left but within a week of pay day! Its crazy.

However, I have been off work this week and my OH took my cash card and credit card off me (he dispairs) and it had been so hard not to go shopping. I have been so bored that I even painted the loft!!!! I am also banned from looking at my Next catalogue ever again - including looking at the website!

    LOL

  • Can I join spendaholics anonymous please? :D

This is precisely why I and oh are in debt! We have no will power, we convince ourselves we need things we can't afford. Our debt is made up of many, many, many small purchases, so we don't feel extravagant, but when you add them all up it's scary and we can't afford it!

I need your help to stop spending. Clothes and stuff for the house are particular weaknesses of mine, and oh loves to buy DVD's and computer stuff. WE NEED HELP!!!!!

    Curse their successful marketing strategies!

  • Thanks for letting me join. I know exactly what you mean though with the emails River Island, ASOS and Topshop insist on sending me them. I know you can cancel them but once I see the website I forget what I went in to do ! I have been reading so many threads this afternoon on MSE so I don't get tempted and it has worked. I am going shopping tomorrow but it is for bathroom tiles and a light but hey better than nothing.

My OH has also told me he is giving me a weekly spending allowance every Friday and once its gone its gone. As I need petrol this week, I have decided to decline the Easter Sunday local pub crawl and offered to babysit my friends kids so she can go out instead!

  • hey guys. Advice required. We've been invited to an evening do of quite a posh wedding. Bearing in mind its an evening do only do you think smart jeans would suffice?!

HAven't really got anything else suitable!!
  • Anyone around?!
  • Wow, it's quiet around here tonight!

tmd, I really don't know! When's the wedding? Where's the wedding? I know last time I needed a posh frock I got one from TK Maxx, it was lovely and relatively cheap, so I didn't mind only wearing it once. But it's also one that won't go out of fashion in case I ever have occasion to wear it again! Jeans can look smart though, dressed up with some shiny stilletoes, a slinky top, and the right accessories!!! I think if they're a dark denim you could get away with it!

Oh well I'm just no good at this no spending malarky!

The whole week has just been spend spend spend.. bought a hair dye for a fiver or something and it made my hair black. Sooo wet to buy all sorts of things to try and lighten it, lemons, bicarb of soda, head and shoulders, vosene, chlorine shampoo etc etc. Total probably around £20.

Then bit the bullet and went to the hairdressers to get it fixed. £30

Went shopping today and bought a pair of trousers from Zara, £17, came home and have the exact same trousers at home, with the tags still on! ALso bought a cardigan for £12 and a lipliner for £3.

My friends birthday soon so I thought oohh I'll get her the new xen tan she'll love that, £25. But then I thought, Oh ill love it too, £25.

Also bought a pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes... oh I slipped that one in there quietly lol but they were a bargain at £65. And a pair of Dune shoes but they were only £25.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, there's probably more :(
