I have all my food for the week and beyond, March will be the get a grip month. I know I was miserable at work last term but its all my own making. And spending more ISN'T going to get me out of debt and in to a job I like.
My personal aims for March - NO DVDS NO magazines.
and o stick to the 200 pound spending money.

Just come back from Tesco where I entered looking to get some bottles of wine (its been a tough old week!), came out with a £4 DVD (bargain it would be rude to refuse!), a corkscrew (wasn't sure if I had one around the house) and some tesco value coke (MSE suddenly crossed my mind so I bypassed the Pepsi brand!)LTSB CC: £7,027.05 :eek:Debt (at peak) on 19/07/08: £9,127.05

Before I had a n overdraft maxed out to a grand, and luckily I inherited some money from my dads ISA. thing is Im back 700 overdrawn, at first when my bank balance was 0.00 I tried really hard but then I thought screw it, its only a few quid here and there, it wont matter but it all adds up!
Before I was mad on mags but a couple of weekly mags and the monthly ones all add up I probably was spending about 40 quid a month I use to buy them ALL!!
I think it was out of boredom.
Starting from last week I gave myself a budget of 20 quid to last me a fortnight, everythings paid for food is stocked up bills are all DD. THe money is lasting but IM so bored!! The first few days of this week I spent cleaning but theres only so much cleaning you can do!
Havent been to the shops in a week and thats a shocker for me.
So yay me!MiasMommy0 -
I spent again today on erm a website that sells erm you know...
When you walk into a chemist and buy erm cotton wool, and tooth brushes and all the things but what you need to ask for *coughs*
Anyway it was through Quidco and they were in an erm selection pack, but if you bought two selection packs you got something free to make the erm toothbrushes and cotton wool more fun - so I thought why not and it was free p&p and my Quidco cashback came through at £2.21 and erm the toothbrushes will be delivered in erm plain packaging lol!Save me from spending...

Hi all, and welcome to the board newbies!!!
I'll dish out some more numbers tomorrow I think. Too many posts to respond to since I last looked yesterday!!!
Had quite a frugal day today, went to Asda and didn't but anything unnecessary . . . . apart from some hair bands for my DD, which she really doesn't need, but they were so cute, and they look really sweet on, and they were only £2! My daughter is now my weakness, it used to be me; I used to by all of the unnecessary cosmetics, designer clothes, and shoes - oh, the shoes!! I still have 30 pairs at home, some of which have NEVER been worn, what a disgrace!! But now, it's definitely the daughter! I can't go ANYWHERE without spotting something for her. Aaaaaarghhhh!!! I think I convince myself that it's ok to spend because it's for her and not me, regardless of whether she needs it or not!
Get sending those challenges for March in to me ladies (presumably!), we need to break the habit!!

Well done Lil chicken,
Ive been bad (really i have)
I decided to give up smoking but then it all went out the window on Friday, i can justify it in that i was upset, stressed or just silly but its now once again a part of me.
Thats another £20 a week just on cigarettes, but i am going to cut down.
Also i obvioulsy had to buy a lighter, but i didnt want a cheap 40p lighter from the garage, no i had to by the £1.25 mini lighter that i will loose in approximately 3 hours time and why "because its pink and very cute"
Im such a plonker!!!!!!!
Also we spent £200 on the cc for hubbys new phone (he managed to introduce the old one to Whiskey on friday and it didnt like it much)
Now yes this is silly money, but since he wanted to get another contract as he thought it would be cheaper its saved us money.
I know im backwards - the thing is his contract expires in November so thats a good 9 months, the total cost of his current contract and another one would be £540, therfore spending £200 now and him putting and extra £50 a month on the cc means its cheaper
Only problem is i want a nice new phone now ...........0 -
Hi PB - unfortunately I too have fallen off the wagon and just spent £50 on Boots again today. That's the third time this week! Bring on 1st March. My challenge is not to buy any non-necessities (is that even a word?) for a month. The problem is - some of the boards on here. when they say grabbit I think they are personally speaking to me. LOL:rotfl:
I also buy things because 'they'll save me money in the long run.' I also spent £100 on presents for later in the year this week. All on my cc:o .
Giving up smoking is a toughie - I did it cold turkey about 7 years ago. I still have the odd one after too much  but only a couple of times a year.:A
Maybe you could start again on 1 March at least that gives you a few days to prepare:D

You arent the only one that loves boots!
Hubby had to go in this avo to get essentials (shaving foam etc) and i was soooooooooo tempted to go in and get a nice face mask and my lip balm is at least 3 weeks old and maybe they have a good deal on a new whitening tooth paste.
But i didnt! i went to WHSmith instead and (although i was tempted by the book of the week) i only spent £1.20 on a mag and a pack of mints (for some odd reason i bought the same mints this week as last week then realised i dont like them)
Im not gonna try smoking again for a while, ill just cut down and see how that goes first - maybe :rotfl:
Im not setting any targets for anything for this week, hubby is away for 3 days and i tend to stop in the shop/takeaway on the way home and its quite a nice drive to the retail park when im really bored, lol
Good luck with your challenge x0 -
well guys - got back from my weekend in london. budgeted £200 for the 3 days including tubefares/meals etc which I have saved since xmas.
and spent ....... £150!!!!!! woo hoo.
am so pleased with myself. when we went onto oxford street/bond street I thought oh dear but no! I did it the DFW way and said to myself "do I really need it?" the answer was always no (except for 2 radley purses which I spent £65 on, didnt really need the little one but at £15 looked so cute!!!, am claiming a moment of insanity for that!! lol)
so my challenge for March - I have £80 in my purse. I get paid tomorrow and all bills go out DD. food comes out of our joint account as we need it - so -
I will NOT draw any money out of my bank account!!
its so simple I dont know why I didnt do it before!! will have to fill up car half way through month but will switch it (so no cash).
there is no reason why I cannot live on £80 until next payday.
so thats it! let me know how you are all doing in deciding your compulsive spending challenge. remember, its about changing habits not about denying yourself lifes pleasures.0
