Powergen !

Anyone else having problems switching to Powergen Engery Online? I applied online with payment by mthly DD then received a standard letter confirming EnergySavingPlan with payment on demand. After 2 e-ms almost 2 weeks ago received a phone call to say they cannot confirm my tarriff and I need to change it myself on the Powergen website. So am not very impressed so far! Also find the various tarriffs very confusing when trying to understand how EngeryOnline is the cheapest.

  • I also received a letter stating 'payment on demand'. A quick phone call (0800 number) discovered they were having problems processing my DD details. (I bank with Citibank and its not the first time I've encountered problems with DD).

The guy on the phone confirmed my details and then said he would look into it and call me back. Sure enough, a phone call 10 mins later to say it was sorted. Time will tell, but so far quite happy with Powergen customer services.
If you're happy to sell it to me at a price I am happy to pay - then I want it cheaper.

Powergen has a delay on their applications because all the people currently switching to their Online tariff. While it is clearly far from perfect if you can hold on for another week you should receive all your details fromm Powergen and be on supply shortly with them.

Hope this is OK and sorry about the delays.

    Kind regards,
    Mark.

  • Anyone considering switching to powergen online (or any other powergen tariff, though the other tariffs are all more expensive than the "online" tariff) should check out the thread (link below) for details of Curry's offer (£40 in Currys vouchers or a £50 freeview box).

You get 1000 Tesco points from Powergen as well.

This may be more attractive than the £10 cashback paid by energyhelpline.

(I have no connection with either Curry's or Powergen)

Is anyone else having problems with the Powergen website ?

They sent me an email telling me to register my details on the site but every time I try their website seems knackered.

Powergen seem to be having trouble with both their joining packs and their website.

I've received two separate joining packs in the last week, both of which give the wrong payment type, and the wrong annual discount.

I had selected payment by variable monthly direct debit which with the dual fuel discount gives a discount of £43. However their first letter referred to 'On Demand Payment' and a discount of £6. I rang them up, but their second letter referred to 'Fixed Direct Debit', and a discount of £16-50. I'll have to ring them up again.

Their website is unfriendly in not accepting the Mozilla Firefox browser, and is very slow for the online account registration. Now that I have registered, the website won't let me log in using my chosen username. I sent Powergen a query via their Contact Us section on how to get into my account, and received a reply telling me they are busy, and suggesting that I register to manage my account online.

Powergen have since sent me duplicate copies of an email telling me that they've have sent some correspondence to my online account and I can simply log in to read it. Their email ended "If you do have any questions, please use the'Contact us' section."
  • I have just had a letter from Powergen saying that I could cap both my gas and electricity prices.
After some difficulty getting through I have just spoke to a consultant.

    In the letter it quotes
Econ 7 first 200 current price per unit 10.79 inc vat

The capped price for this unit is 15.4 which is not far off 40% higher than present, I told them I wouldn't be going ahead now as I need to look into this further.

IMHO it is a bit of a scam as they could put the capped price in the letter, maybe they don't because it is so high.

Even though the unit rate is slightly higher, you have to remeber 2 things:

    1. the prices will not increase until 31/07/06.

    2. unlike scottish power, npower, bg who all do capped prices, powergen have not increased their prices yet.

If you forecast for the cappe dperiod, you'll find that you're probablt better off.
    Beware the green?
  • I have now joined Powergen on line and paying by D/D, looks like my best bet, for the time being at least.
  • After a promised saving of £201 via the Energy Helpline
i was dismayed to find that whilst completing the direct debit form my saving had dropped to £36.

Maybe i've done something wrong but i have decided to cancel anyway.

  • Apparently Powergen have announced a 9% increase in their prices today. As I just switched to them last week I'm not happy!
I thought that, considering the 'Time to switch' info on MSE, all the price increases had been announced already.
Can anyone tell me whether this means i will really have to pay 9% more, or whether the price comparison would've included this?
I say what I like, I like what I say!
