Just recieved this email from powergen. I have justed decided to switch about 2 weeks ago (so before 2nd Nov) to the online tarriff:
----
Dear Customer
YOUR ENERY PRICES ARN'T CHANGING
You've probably heard that energy prices are increasing throughout the UK this year, but there's no need to worry. As a Powergen EnergyOnline customer, these increases don't affect you. Because you manage your energy online, we can pass the savings onto you, and you still get all these great benefits:
Up to £43 annual discount*
Secure online access to your account anytime and no more paper bills
Provide meter readings easily online - no more estimated bills
Receive Tesco Clubcard points for every pound you spend on your bills
If your prices change in the future, we'll let you know immediately how these affect you.

But surely it is against the rules sending me an email like that if indeed my tariff will be affected? I just phoned them and they quoted the prices on the phone for me and assured me my tariff is not going up.
Not sure what else I can do.....
Apart from wait and see. and then switch again.0 -
The e-mail means that existing customers on that tariff aren't affected.0

Exactly!! Powergen are doubtless aware that a lot of people have been switching to them in the last few weeks - and they don't suddenly want everyone changing their mind. So they'll wait until they've got them all on board as customers for a couple of months and then I suspect we'll all be switched onto the increased tariff as well.
Undoubtedly Powergen will be hoping that a certain % of customers can't be bothered to switch again and just take it on the chin.
So enjoy it while it lasts - and be prepared to switch again in a few months time.If you're happy to sell it to me at a price I am happy to pay - then I want it cheaper.0 -
Hi snowflake & Clayts,
To be honest, confusion reigns.
On Monday 01st November, Powergen informed me that they had no knowledge of any price rises now or in the foreseeable future.
On Tuesday 02nd November, Powergen announced they were raising their prices.
Tuesday afternoon, Powergen informed me that their Energy Online Duel Fuel tariff had increased and if you refer to my post for Tuesday 02nd November you will see that I published their new Energy Online Duel Fuel tariff charges for customers residing in the Eastern area.
Sometime on Tuesday, Powergen seemed to have had a rethink and started informing people that existing customers and those who started their switch to Powergen prior to 02nd November will be exempt from this latest price increase.
It has been reported that Powergen intend to apply the increase to existing customers accounts in January 2005. Powergen say that this is not true.
I would be inclined to continue with your switch to Powergen and switch again if prices rise.
I am in mid switch myself. Let’s hope that any price rise for existing customers is delayed for as long as possible.Do It To Them Before They Do It To You0 -
Would you believe it – I’ve just received exactly the same email from Powergen as Clayts.Do It To Them Before They Do It To You0

Out of interest could you look at some of your bills and tell me the EXACT discount you receive each quarter for being an energy online customer.
Pgen say you will get up to £43 a year which should equate to £10-75 a quarter.
I pay by DD,get both fuels and have paperless bills but I have never received a discount of £10-75 a quarter.
I have rang them and queried this on several occassions only to be told a different story each time.0 -
Hi alared,
I am not yet a Powergen customer but caught up in the process of switching to them.
To answer your question: Yes, you are quite correct, Powergen state that if you become an Energy Online Dual Fuel customer you will receive a total annual discount of £43.00. This sum will be divided by four [£10.75] and deducted from each of your quarterly bills.
Powergen are also offering 500 Tesco clubcard points [£5.00] for each fuel you switch to them. Gas and Electricity = 1,000 points [£10.00] payable when your account goes live.
Powergen will also offer 1 Tesco clubcard point for every £1 spent but they don’t make it clear if these points are added quarterly or annually. With an average duel fuel annual spend of £550.00 you should receive 550 Tesco clubcard points worth £5.50.
If you switched to Powergen via the Currys website link you will receive either a free freeview box or £40 voucher, 5/6 weeks after your account has gone live.
If you switched using a comparison website recommended by Martin you should receive £10.00, 3/4 weeks after your account goes live.
Did you switch to Powergen awhile ago? Maybe Powergen have only recently offered the discount and incentives to capture new customers.
The discounts and incentives are clearly laid out in pages on the Powergen website.
I assume that you are paying by monthly direct debit.
I would suggest that you write to Powergen’s Customer Accounts Manager and bring this problem to his/her attention.Do It To Them Before They Do It To You0 -

Thanks for that.
I switched to their energy online tariff last Feb. and have never received the £10-75 per quarter yet.
I`m due to view my latest bill online any day now so I`ll see what discount I get this time but i`m willing to bet it won`t be £10-75!0 -
Arranged a switch to Powergen 3-weeks ago and all proceeding fine, the process to date has been painless and I have received 2 general updates advising of progress.
Having noticed the recently announced price rise I have checked and had confirmed by e-mail that Powergenonline prices will not be affected.0
