    Hiya!!

The £100 credit is given for not taking a new handset.. I'm not really bothered about handsets in fact I use a Nokia 1101, brilliant wee phone its basic but has excellent battery life and does everything I need.

Call the Retentions Dept direct on 0870 600 7102, Dont think there is any Free Phone number as far as i know.

When you call Retentions just ask them for the Discount 500 or Discount 750 tariff, saying something like you've been told to ask for it since one of your colleagues or friends are on it and they were thinking of leaving O2 and have now stayed since getting this tariff.

I did this for one of my colleagues at work and he got the Discount 500 Tariff with NO Texts for £12.50 per month with a £100 Credit.

    HTH

Thanks Matrix, I'm currently on Discount 500 which equates to 500 anytime mins and 400 texts for £10 per month (£25 - £15 discount) which is a cracking deal.

Obviously this is not a deal I'd like to end, so guess I'll ring retentions soon and pretty much say what you did - that I'm unhappy at having to revert back to my old deal (which I guess is what will happen) of 500 mins off peak and 500 texts for £25 per month.

Fingers crossed that they'll be in a giving mood and extend my discount 500 tariff!

I used this free phone number for retentions
    0800 0288151

Doesn't say 'you're through to o2 retenttions' but if you ask they confirm it is indeed retentions/upgrades.

Originally they told me it was going to be £15 per month for the tariff, but after I phoned up to question my first bill that was way over, they said it was actually a £15 discount per month - hence only a £10 spend per month.

It sounds as though they're not doing the discount 500/750 deals anymore, however there's always a few that manage to negotiate it still - well done Matrix!

    Good luck to all

Good luck everyone when you phone the Retentions Dept to re negotiate your Discount 500/750 tariff...Remember to get the advisor to update your account notes if they agree to do the deal again and get there extn number. I then called back and spoke to another advisor and asked them to read out the note that the previous advisor had wrote just to confirm it had actually been noted.

Let the thread know how you get on :)

P.S Nice one Rev for the freephone number!!

O2 are now taking the absolute michael - I am seriously fed up and will cancel on wednesday if they do not deliver my new handset.

Negotitated a great deal out of them thanks to this thread, and got the Nokia 6280 for £49.99. Fine, until they tell me that it is not in stock. That was 3 weeks ago. Have kept phoning and was finally told on Monday that the phone was ordered and should be with me this week. Gets to today and no phone. Ring again, and am now told that the order hasn't gone through, as it needs a special authorisation as the phone price has been reduced. Asked when it would be authorised and was told, "whenever."

Now I am livid, at this. Whilst I don't mind having to genuinly wait for a handset to come into stock, I feel that they are now taking the p, by not sending it to me, when I know others have received theirs. I got another £25credited to my account, in compensation, but I'd rather have had the handset 3 weeks ago to be honest.

So, although they were good when negotiating my new deal, it seems that they are not quite so good, about sending out the upgrade handset - seem to recall that they did this last year with me also.

Is anyone else having troubles getting their new phone delivered, or is it just me?

I am currently on O2 600 tariff through carphone warehouse. The monthly rental is £55, but my bills usually come in at approx £80/month (due to international calls when abroad).
Carphone warehouse were very savvy and very unhelpful. I spoke to "sales" the first time and because I'm only 6 months into the contract, they would not offer me anything better than my current deal and when I threatened to move they put me through to "diconnections" dept. After a massive wait, I got through and asked if they could do anything to improve my tariff before I cancelled by contract. They said they couldn't and would have to put me through to sales (). By this point they'd called my bluff and I'd tied myself up in knots, so I ended the call before I went too far. After spending a couple of hours trawling through onecompare.com (recommended by Martin), I managed to find a deal offering Vodafone Anytime 1000 for approx £33/month, so I called "disconnections" again asking for my pac reference (I want to retain my number). Again after spending forever on hold (it is an 0870 number, so I think they deliberately send you through as many automated messages as possible!), I spoke to a very aggressive woman, who would not help me, other than to say that I had to write a letter to head office, asking for the number and explaining why I wanted it and that it would take 28 days for it to come through. At this point I asked to be put on the minimum tariff (£20 she told me), as I wanted to pay as little as possible to finish the contract.
Annoyed that I would probably not bother if I had to wait 30 days for the pac ref., I then rang sales again (it took me approx 10 attempts - "operators busy, please try later" - and about an hour) and asked for my pac ref. This time I got a really helpful girl who, after trying her best to disuade me from leaving, (but obviously had no authority to offer me a better deal) filled out the request form over the phone and took the settlement payment there and then (only £110, because my request to reduce my tariff had already been processed!:D ). She explained that she had to clear this payment before issuing the pac ref., but that I would receive it within the next 48hrs.

To cut a long story short; either I am crap at negotiating, or carphone warehouse are very adept at making it very difficult to improve tariffs, or leave. Either way, just by following Martin's tips and reading everyone else's experiences on this forum, I reckon I will get an extra 400 minutes and save approx £37/month, even allowing for the paying off of my existing contract!

    Thanks everyone!:T :j

They are good at making new deals, or are they?.
I got offered 1000 mins anytime any net plus 100 free texts and a sammy D600 for "£20. after being on 750 mins anytime any net and a D500 for £15 a month. Got the phone today, rang them back to confirm the offer, they said I cann't have the offer because I am an o2 uk customer and not o2 online customer. My question is why ask for your number at the start of a call to put you through to the right person, when they clearly don't put you through to the right person?. I hope its a miss-understanding as my online bill just looks like a mess of offers. Waiting for a call back from them, if they don't give me the offer they said they would I will be off myself, onto flext 35 I think?.

This is a message to all MSE who are having problems with the deal they have been given by Retentions and also those who are waiting on phones to arrive.

Send an e-mail to peter.erskine@o2.com he is the managing director of O2. When he receives your complaint it will be passed to one of his colleagues in Customer Relations who will resolve the complaint.

Please don't get Customer Relations mixed up with Customer Services, his team in Leeds have far more authority than Customer Services and usually can resolve complaint/problems straight away.

I've had dealings with them and I have to say they are super efficent!!

    Thanks Matrix,
I have delt with Peter before and all worked out great, just hope he can help on this one for me, the only problem with o2's deals, they will never send you confirmation in the post, It might of been a miss-understanding with mine, but there was no phone calls to let me know they had made a mistake, just let me find out on my first bill?. Then maybe to late to cancel as I have no proof of the offer I was given.
