My advice is to be friendly and polite when you call retentions.
I was on 400 mins/1000 texts online tariff at £45 a month (began about 18 months ago).Monthly bill doesn't exceed this.
First offer was same contract for £30, free phone (negotiated an SE W801i, but was also offered Nokia N70, 6230i and Motorola ROKR) or £100 credit with no phone. I was offered this straight away but also told it was the best they could offer.(this was few weeks ago)
Second call (just now) initially offered me the same deal, I said was happy to halve texts, was then offered 500 mins/500 texts for £30 (12 months) then offered 750 mins/750 texts for £30 (18 months). When I asked about the free phone upgrade was told the SE W801i was out of stock for a month (but could still have it) or I could have the SE 550i now. After a friendly chat and me thanking him for (very) patiently explaining the features to me, I agreed to have this phone and explained that I'd be happy to take 400 mins/400 texts if I could have that for less than £30 (12 months) as my priority was to cut the monthly bill (I've got loads of free mins on a e2save deal) He then said 'I tell you what, how does 500 mins and 500 texts for £20 a month sound? Oh and with the free upgrade SE W550i phone of course'
'Sounds lovely' I said
We got cut off (my fault) and he called me straight back......
500 mins/500 texts. Free S. Ericsson W550i. £20 a month. 12 month contract
I say be friendly because when I thanked him for explaining the W550i features he said I was the first person who'd said 'Thank you' to him today. I don't know if I got the deal because of it, but he said I'd made his day.0 -

I totally agree with you 100%!!0 -
I'm on online 50, only spending about £21 a month or so, have phoned up a few times but couldnt get a decent handset, which is what my main priority was, but have now managed to get the w810i for £50 after a bit of negotiating (not exactly thrilled about that since new customers are only paying £30!). Just waiting on it coming back into stock, was wondering if it would be worthwhile trying to get some money off my monthly bill, or get some extra minutes?0

Anyone know if they would offer a good deal to a P&G customer looking a PAC code to go to a 3 contract?
I don't top up much, but it's been my main phone for 3 years.Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!0 -
My contract is up with o2 in about six weeks. Just wondering if I'm best phoning customer services and asking for my PAC (thinking of moving to T-Mobile, unless o2 can offer a decent contract) or phoning retentions and seeing if they offer anything decent?
Which would be best?
Also looking for either a Nokia 6111 or 6280 (really should decide what one before I phone), having been an o2 customer for 6 years and having paid through the nose for my upgrade every year I'm determined not to pay this year.Sigless0 -
Rev. I'd definately speak to retentions first then if no decent offer is offered ask for your PAC code. When you speak to retentions its best to have found a deal online already that you want so that they have got something to better. I did this and got a cracking deal. HTH:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0

Thanks. Do I just phone and tell them I want to leave? inform them the tmobile contract is better than the one i'm on and see what they come up with?Sigless0

I always ring up customer services and straight away say can you put me through to someone who can give me a PAC code, they then put you straight through to retentions who tend to ask is there a reason you require a PAC code? You can then quote the deal you've been offered elsewhere and they'll try to match it.
If you get a spoilsport who doesn't want to give a good deal you can always suggest you want to go away and think about it, or contact t-mobile, 3 or whoever to check how long it'll take to connect you. I always ask how long PAC codes last for if I want to get off the phone, then when they say 30 days I say it's probably best if I check my handset is in stock with the new provider and ring you back etc...0 -

When I called I done as cheeky said and asked for my PAC code. They put me through to retentions and asked why I wanted it. I said I was thinking of going to PAYG as I needed to cut down my monthly bill. They asked if I would consider staying if they gave me a deal. Cutting long story short....lol....got given a naff deal so I went away. Called back and spoke to someone much better and got what was IMO a cracking deal for me. And yes I had a deal I wanted infront of me so quoted that to the second person I spoke to and she beat it considerably. Don't be fobbed off by the first person you speak to that £19 is the absolute lowest you can get a tariff for as its not true.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
I JUST GAVE IT A TRY THERE JUST NOW. BECAUSE I AM ONLY 3 MONTHS INTO MY NEW CONTRACT THEY WANT TO CHARGE £250 CANCELLATION FEE. THEY WOULDN'T MATCH A BETTER OFFER I HAD FROM 3 EITHER. COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME :mad:0
