O2 New Retention Tariff Discount 500 / Discount 750

This thread was very active a few months ago but there's been less discussion recently.
I've been with O2 Online (originally BT Genie) since 2001 and am on a very old tariff described on my bill as 'Genie Off Peak 600 (SIM only)'. I changed to SIM only after my first year as I didn't like the sound of any of the upgrades I was offered. I've therefore never had an upgrade from O2.
In some respects I'm getting a very good deal as for my £15 per month I get 600 SMS (it's been a long time since I've used more than 100 of these), 50 minutes a day off-peak and unlimited dial-up WAP. I believe off-peak calls over the 50 minutes are still only 2p per minute.
On the other hand the inclusive minutes are only to landlines and other O2 customers, and the WAP is dial-up rather than GPRS. The high cost of daytime or cross-network calls tends make me use the phone less than I otherwise would.
I do use WAP quite a bit, mainly for the BBC News web site.
Does anyone know whether O2 are still offering the outstanding retention deals that they were a couple of months ago? I rarely spend more than a pound or two over my monthly £15, so I'm not that lucrative a customer.
If not, I'm tempted to go to 3 (their mobile web sites add-on would be adequate for my data needs), but if anyone knows of any other deals that include a modest amount of data and a decent number of SMSes and cross-network minutes, then I'd love to know. Ideally I'd like a K750i but would also consider the K608i.0 -
well sorter, give them a call and ask them.
What you might get which might be worth taken is £100 call credit and half price line rental for 12 months. Which makes your line rental actually a minus per month.
But you won't get a new handset.0 -

I was originally on the Genie Sim Off Peak 600 tariff and they moved me onto the Discount 500 tariff.
The key to getting this tariff is to say that your leaving to go to 3 as you have seen a deal where you can get 500 X Network mins and texts for £15 per month.
The advisor should then offer you this tariff and a choice of free handsets, or if your happy with the one you have a credit of between £75 and £100

Thanks for the replies. I had read through the earlier posts but wondered whether these offers were still being made. If so, it would suit my purposes well.
No harm in asking...0 -
I spoke to O2 Retentions today.
I mentioned the 3 offers (500 minutes for £15), which I was told they could match. However the best phone they could offer free would be the K700i. A K750i would cost £89.99 extra.
I forgot to ask what they would offer me if I didn't have an upgrade at all.
I'm now tempted to jump ship but this will be complicated. I already have a 3 contract: no particular complaints but I haven't had to rely on it as my main phone. I'd therefore probably need to cancel my contract before starting a new one (to get the best deal) and then port my number from O2.
Any other suggestions gratefully received. I need a contract that gives me a reasonable (but not massive) number of cross network minutes, about 100 SMSes, and enough data to allow for browsing of WAP sites and the odd e-mail check.0 -
Today must be the day, after having no luck getting the deal I wanted all month, I gave it another try today, and managed to get the k750i with 500xnet/100txt at £15/month.
On another contract, I could only get the k700i, the 750 would have been £90 as the previous poster.
Both contracts were on leisuretime400 (not a published tarriff) and the only difference is I had a much bigger spend on the contract that was allowed the free k750i.
So the more you have spent, the better deal you will get.

I was offered £100 credit if I didn't take a new handset. I also think others have been offered £75 credit.
Again, I assume it depends on your spend.

Surely it must be obvious to most of you why the retentions have been so good over the past few months.....
Telefonica !!!!
Obviously O2 needed to look as attractive as possible to prospective buyers...

how would that explain that I have been trying to get a good deal all month, and only get the deal I wanted _after_ the sale has been agreed
12 months ago when my contract was up, I got the leisuretime400 tariff which is 400 offpeak minutes and a samsung d500 for £8.50 per month, so these good deals are nothing new.
