I can see a potential problem here with tiscali...

I migrated from them to go to O2 in early feb.. I cancelled the direct debit with tiscali and they sent me a letter asking me why so i called them and they said i still owed them for the first few days in february..

I spoke to a guy there who gave me a reference number and told me that they would send me a bill through the post for what i owed them...

almost 6 weeks later i've received no letter, i'm wondering whether to give them a call but i don't fancy holding on for 20 minutes..

I signed up to Tiscali on 10th Jan 2008 ,and have still not been connected or sent a modem. They let my MAC from Pipex(a Tiscali company!!) expire, and they said they would get an engineer to call me which never happened. They haven't taken any payments yet,but does anyone know if they have broken their contract by not supplying the service? I want to get away from Pipex and Tiscali, but don't know if I can sign up to another ISP without having to pay up 12 months contract to Tiscali, which I can't afford to do.I have e-mailed BBC Watchdog about them and I urge anyone who is having problems with them to do the same. The more complaints they get, the more chance there is of getting them brought into line. Any advice please Martin?

    Welcome to MSE, spitfiremk5 :T
Martin hardly ventures out of his cave these days :p, but you'll find plenty of MSErs happy to help here.

If the MAC you gave to Tiscali has expired, you have nothing to worry about. Tiscali have no way to process your order now, that MAC is not valid anymore. You'd need to give them a new MAC for Tiscali do anything now. When MACs are left to expire (they are only valid for 30 days), your connection with your existing provider carries on as normal.

From what you say, it sounds like Tiscali gave up on your order for whatever reason some time ago, so you've probably been worrying for nothing. ;)
The true cost of something is what you give up to get it.

Forgive me if I've put this in the wrong thread, but I thought I'd better point out a worrying recent experience with Tiscali's Free Weekend Talk. This is supposed to give free weekend calls to 01 and 02 numbers and evening calls at a flat charge of 5p for less than 60 mins. We have just had our Free Weekend talk bill and found that Tiscali have been charging us by the minute for all 01 and 02 evening calls and for some weekend calls for the last 6 months - for example, a 40 minute eveing call which should have been 5p clocked in at around 70p. I would recommend that Tiscali phone users check their bills for similar errors. Alarmingly, when I called the (expensive) 0871 billing helpline, both the agent and supervisor had no idea about Tisali call rates -insisting that all evening call were charged at 5p per minute - and could do nothing to assist with the faulty bill. For any one with this problem, don't waste time and money calling billing, but instead call the Tiscali high level complaints team at the London had Office - 020 70872000

UPDATE: Prepare to be shocked - yesterday I received my free wireless router - 4 months late and no longer required.

They did on occassions send me an e-mail apologising for not responding sooner. Blah - Blah - Blah, so not only do I own a modem, a router which I had to purchase and now another router... their service is appalling, if you are thinking about using them - don't waste your time or effort, read other threads on here & you will see how bad they are.
  • Hello,

Been with Tiscali since December 2005 on the £14.99 a month package, I have now received a debt collection letter from a compnay called CARS stating that I owe £360. I assumed just a stupid mistake from Tiscali, however since going through my bank statement it appears they (or my bank) had cancelled the DD. I was completely unaware of this (I don't scour my bank statements)!! However I STILL have internet access and have been in contact with Tiscali customer services on a number of different occasions and it was NEVER mentioned that I owe them any money. I have never had a letter from tiscali!!! I am at a loss really, would anyone know where I stand with this???

    Thanks

    Monty:eek:

I started with Tiscali in 2005 and had no problems whatsoever, until I tried to upgrade my system to their £19.99 all in package. Oh boy, what a palarva. After getting wrong advice from their sales team, who told me I was paying both tiscali and BT for line rental, I was advised to ring BT and tell them to cancel my direct debit. I did, and was promptly cut off. I had to open a new account with BT, after 1 hr 45 minutes through every Indian call centre tiscali has got, all on a mobile phone at my expense. At a later stage in March, when we found that BT had blocked my broadband access, a tiscali call centre operator told me to ring BT and tell them to unblock it. The BT broadband staff went mad, and said that tiscali was in breach of their legal OfCom requirement, as it was only them who could request it, and that BT was going to report this as a failure. He also said that this was a common experience from tiscali customers, and BT took the matter seriously. When I phoned tiscali back, the operator was not interested, and promised broadband back in 7 to 10 days, which is normal. It wasn't, so another round of Indian phone calls ensued!

Six weeks later, I got my broadband back. BT also charged me £70 for breach of contract since tiscali had taken the line over from them before the statutory 12 months had expired.

I have taken my case, and claim for over £100 compensation to the Ombudsman, but I don't hold out much hope. I did get a call from a senior manager in India, and we agreed a £20 discount for loss of broadband service during the 6 week period, which was conditional on the outstanding case. I have heard nothing since, except that they have just cocked my May bill up, as they have billed me separately for broadband and line rental. This is being dealt with now.

My advice is, stay away from Tiscali until they are sold off, and see who takes them over. Go find another ISP. My pal has suffered similar problems, and being self employed in an industry which relies heavily upon internet access, he has given up and gone with NTX.
  • HELLO.

I need major help as i am so stressed out.

I have been spending 2 hours on the phone to Sky to go for a better deal, where i would leave BT and Tiscali. At Sky i was pushed around from one dept to the next trying to give them a MAC code. I have been told so many conflicting stories about how this would be done, including hidden costs....

I will go into more information with someone soon, but firstly I want to claim back 2 hours of wasted calls from Sky. They wouldnt even give me a contact person or number to get in touch. I have been wound up big time over this. All i know is that I am going to end up with a huge bill. :-) All for nothing.

I would post a new thread but dont know how to do this. I can explain more shortly but can someone help me PLEASE :-( I have been going crazy. No one at Sky has a clue, i have been shunted around from dept to dept. I gave them my mac code from Tiscali, but now i dont know if tiscali will cut me off because i dont know how far i got in the end with Sky.

My bills are huge as it is :-(

    Please PLEASE help.

    Justin :-(

    Justin,

    Do you have Sky TV?
Assuming you do, check if Sky broadband is available at your telephone exchange,
    http://packages.sky.com/surf/

The page makes it fairly clear how to proceed from there.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
