  • Thanks all.

2 weeks ago it was lasagne - many portions awaiting in the freezer.

I cooked cottage pie on Wednesday but only ate half so froze the other half. Just want to know a)how long will it be ok in the freezer and b)when i go to reheat it do i need to let it defrost first, or can it be reheated from frozen?

Sorry I'm a bit of a newbie to OS moneysaving! :o

it'll be fine in the freezer for several months at least and I would defrost it before reheating. If you take it out of the freezer in the morning it will be ready by dinner time :)

Don't worry about asking - everyone has to learn once!

The pie will be fine in the freezer for a few months as long as it's wrapped up properly. I'd defrost it before reheating, and when you've reheated it, just stick a knife in the middle of the pie for a few seconds then touch the tip to check the temperature in the middle, as the middle will heat up the slowest - if the tip of the knife isn't hot, it needs more reheating.

It will last for ages in the freezer, and personally I don't always defrost before heating, but I do check things with a catering temp probe!

    Hi xXMessedUpXx,

I keep cottage pie in the freezer for two to three months provided it's well wrapped. Normally I try to defrost it before reheating as otherwise the outside can be overcooked while the inside is still cool.

As your thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've added it to the main thread on freezer questions as your query may help others.
