O2 have a monopoly on the iPhone so the chances of you getting a discount deal on it are virtually nil.
In fact, I bought one of the old ones cheap and asked how I could use it with my existing O2 contract, and their reply was that once my contract expires I just sign up for one of their 18-month iPhone tariffs, at full price even if I don't take a new handset. My iPhone is jailbroken and unlocked anyway so if their posture is so I'm taking my business elsewhere when my contract ends.0 -
Apparently, due to the contract that they have with Apple, they cannot make any offers at all on the iphone.
As I am out of contract, I tried to see if they would be able to give an accessory with the phone instead, but this is also not allowed under the contract.
I'm guessing that as long as O2 are the exclusive UK provider it isn't going to be possible to obtain any sort og deal on the iphone...0 -
thanks for that info!
now just need to hope i can get the E51 for free on a £15 p/month deal....fingers crossed!0 -
Thought i'd share my upgrade story with you. I found a good deal on mobiles.co.uk for a free Nokia N95 8Gb, 400 minutes, U/limited texts for £30 p/month, after retentions and 9 months 1/2 price, works out as £22.50. Not bad. Was on Orange though.
So, called O2 today and asked if they could better it or let me go. The guy came back with this dealio.
FREE Nokia N95 8GB (usually £149)
400 Any Network Any Time calls
FREE O2 to O2 calls
1000 text messages
18 months
£30 p/month, plus £90 in my account to make it £25 p/month.
All in all quite happy with that. Waiting for him to call back as the N95 wasnt in stock but should have been in today, so hopefully will hear from him tomorrow! Offered me broadband as well, but since I cant get the proper b/b in my area it was gonna cost £17.50 and I've had a far better offer from Pipex, who seem like they might be scrambling for customers cos that deal was awesome. As much as they are on my hitlist, I think i'll have to take it up it was so good!!! I'll post that in the b/b forum.
So there you go, advice (if you're looking for it) is to find as good a deal as you can, and try and get them to match/better it. I really wanted the phone free, with good mins n texts for under £30 a month so was happy with the offer, since the best I've found in most places has been on a £35 a contract! So keep at it, they have some good deals if you ask nicely!0 -
Hi guys, just sorted my next contract, I think similar deals have been posted, but mine was:
600 Mins
1000 Texts
Unlimited Web Browsing
Free N95 8GB
£25/month
Was only offered that for £30, but called back a second time saying I was going to leave and go to Orange unless they could improve the deal, including mentioning the perks of magic numbers and Orange Weds. Actually lied a tad saying that Orange were offering the phone for free for the same deal, when in fact it was £50.
Hope that helps!

I recently decided to cancel my simplicity contract after only six months, as I was overspending on average £8 every month, ( I was on the £15 a month plan).
Retentions dept. tried to call me all day Friday but yesterday I accepted the call and after telling the agent I was unhappy with the service I was offered 250 cross network mins, unlimited 02 to 02 calls and 100 texts for £10 per month over 18 months.
I also got £100 cashback which means I will only pay £80 for the whole period, and works out at exactly £4.44 a month. Which suits me very nicely ...I didn't need a new phone as I managed to bag a sim free SE W610i from an 02 shop back in January this year for only £50. Their Pay and Go version was double that! All in all quite happy.
I have just revised my plan by accident LOL. After failing miserably with CS, I called up retentions dept. on Sunday to ask if I could swap my free bolt-on from free o2 calls to free web browsing. The o2 rep said, "let's see how long you've been with us...okay that's not a problem!" I then checked to confirm my new tarrif on Monday and it looks like it wasn't actually a swap but more like a freebie, as I'm still getting the free o2 to o2 calls.
I'm really chuffed as I was more than happy to let go of the free o2 calls in place of the free data tarrif but it looks like I'm getting both...therefore I decided to go back to 200 mins as the free o2 calls should compensate for the loss of 50mins but I now have 300 more texts a month.
So my revised 18mth tarrif is: 200 anytime mins with 400 texts, unlimited o2 calls and unlimited web bolt-on. All for £10pm with £100 cashback. Very happy bunny! :j0 -
After another call to O2 requesting my PAC code, was again put through to the retentions department. Was offered pretty much the same:
600 xNet mins
1000 sms
Free Nokia N78 (or N95 8 gig)
Free bolt on (extra 200 mins or unlimited O2 to O2 calls)
£25 / month on 18 month contract.
Looks like this is a fairly usual offer, but getting fed up now and not sure whether just to go for it, after all I can sell the N95 and get about £200+ on eBay.
Does this sound like a good deal now?!!
Thanks.0 -
You might get another £5 off per month with a cheaper phone, or take none and get £150 credit as well, so perhaps pay £210 overall for 18 months0

Yer, they did offer me a cheaper phone for £20 per month, but I wouldn't get that much for it though on eBay.
Hmmm ... I just had a call back from O2 and they said they could not confirm the deal I was offered with the N95 8 gig as it is not in stock .... they better because I would have gone with that, then sold the phone for a nice amount!0
