have just phoned retentions myself. I'm on simplicity and was hoping for £100 - £150 cashback to finance an Iphone purchase. The 'best' they could do was £30 line rental, no phone, £150 cashback and free O2 broadband for 12 months.

Joke. I swear they were a lot better than this - their great retention deals is the reason why I'm still on O2 after 5 years.

I am also just off the phone to retentions, I was requesting a PAC code as I was off the the carphone warehouse. They will only match CPW deal, I said I'd think about it and call back tomorrow. They annoy me!

Just got off the phone from retentions he offered me a worse deal since it didn't have the extra bolt on! So I've asked for my PAC code and I'm porting to three. Just picking a tariff now, can't say I'm bothered since they don't seem bothered. Told them their phone selection was crap and he claimed they couldn't afford to keep getitng new phones in. Whatever we all know all the money is going into the iphone. Well whatever be glad to see the back of telefonica.

  • I've just got back from sunny Kingston trawling round the phone shops with a 3 year old, who to give her her dues was great seeing that all the staff bar those omfr one shop were so depressed!

Anyway, back to the thread, I went to all the major high street places, Carphone Warehouse, T-Mobile, O2 etc and Phones 4 U came out best for me.

My first port of call was O2, and when the one member of staff finally got off the phone I asked him the best deal that could be done for an O2 customer of 9 years... his answer: I can't do anything here, I'm not allowed to give deals.

When I went to Phones 4 U and spoke to their manager they said they'd had 1000s of people in the same situation as us lot, all since the Telefonica buy out. It seems Telefonica are really shaking things around for O2 and it's customers, anyway Phones 4 U had better deals and he explained that they could offer better deals since they had negotiated these deals prior to the Telefonica buy out... and that also a lot of them end tomorrow (last bit could be BS but you never know).

Anyway, I ended up leaving the store with a Nokia 5800 for free, on a contract for 24 months for 600 minutes, unlimited text package at a cost of £25.00 per month. He also offered me £90.00 cashback on my old phone (a really old Nokia - about 5 years old!) so my package is £20.00 for 18 months if you take off the cashback and after 18 months I can update to a better phone too.

I've not gone for internet yet as I can sort out a bolt on later on.

I'm quite pleased with this as it stands so my advice at the moment is to speak to Phones 4 U as they can offer some quite good deals for low end users.
  • I got a good deal from Phones 4 U, L.L - try them too, good luck

Had a phone call from Matthew Key's assistant earlier...was basically told that I'd been offered the best deals they could do and weren't interested in offering cheaper tariffs anymore. Will have to wait for my broadband contract to end in October but when it does, it'll be bye bye 02.

that a joke, o2 may as well be renamed apple
  • WOW! I won't be changing my broadband to them either now!

It's the worst case of customer mis-management I've heard of in a long while, just terrible.

it wont be long until o2 lose the contract with apple, then when that happens all the loyal customers who had to leave because of not getting offers wont go back, so o2 will be left without a customer base and will end up really struggling. if i can see that why cant some high payed suits with degrees in business management??

Right now O2 can afford to be smug. They have the Iphone on exclusive, and soon they will have the Palm Pre on an exclusive as well. O2 losing the Iphone exclusivity in December is just a rumour (i think started by the Times). When and if it happens I'll believe it. But right now O2 have you got us all by the balls. If we want the latest Iphone, we're stuck with them.

Having said that, their CS is the best of a bad bunch imho. To be honest I'd not experienced anything bad from O2's CS until today when I tried to get a better deal but they wouldnt budge.
