  • I'm very pleased.

Called for my upgrade today, spoke to upgrades who advised they couldn't offer me what I had seen elsewhere and that they would put me through to retentions.

Spoke to a lovely young girl in retentions who said I believe you've been put through to me to cancel your contract - I advised that this wasn't the case.

I told her what I was looking for - Samsung Pixon, 600 mins, Unlimited texts, free handset, £35 per month - also added that I had seen it with 3 months half price.

She couldn't find it on her system so put me on hold. She came back and said that although it was on customer relations system, it hadn't been put on retentions yet. She took my work number and said she would call me back (not normally allowed to do callbacks) once it had been added and would let me know what could be offered.

Sure enough she called me back this afternoon with this deal

Handset £49.99 - to be paid on next bill
Discounted £45 a month contract to £27 per month
    1200 minutes
    1000 texts
    unlimited internet

I'm really pleased with this and I can honestly say it pays to be honest and plesant to staff.
It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice

I've been keeping an eye on lots of auctions for the past couple of weeks and set myself a budget of between £170 (inc P&P) for one approx 6 months old & locked and £220ish for a fairly new one that's unlocked.

Got mine at 3:15 am this morning for £163 all in (approx 6 months old & locked) from what appears to be a reliable eBayer (fingers crossed).

Recent ones have gone from about £135 for a well used/scratched one to over £200 for a newish one. I've noticed that some are setting their starting price and/or BIN price too high and those appear not to go at all.

It's worth persevering and getting the right one for you. Good luck...

PS - Be aware that there a few people out to spoil some of these auctions (whatever their reason may be). See no. 110312397422 & 260312707427.

Update for anyone thinking of buying a HTC that's locked to a network. Got my Tytn II (Kaiser) from eBay (locked to Orange) and unlocked it with lots of help from http://forum.xda-developers.com/

Is the tariff discount for the full 18months?

I tried O2 again today and although the lady I spoke to was friendly she didnt do much to really help me or SELL anything. Really considering staying on simplicity and buying a phone from eBay. I can then move when I see a deal I like or when a better offer comes along. Would love the Pixon/iPhone/i8510/n95 etc... but they just dont seem keen to keep my business :o

  • I've just been offered the following:

    1200 mins
    1000 texts
    unlimited web
    LG Renoir - £49.99
£27 per month for 18 months

Does anyone think I can get them to come down on the £27 per month?
  • I have been offered the following with cpw o2:-

    600 mins
    unlimited text
    bolt on of my choice
    c905 black- free
18 month contract for either £30 per month discounted from £35 or £150 cashback via redemption for £35 per month. ( £26.66 per month after cashback)

    or
    LG KC780 (8megapixel )

    600 mins
    unlimited text
    free bolt on
18 month contract at either £25 per month discounted from £30 or £250 cashback via redemption for £30 per month ( £16.11 per month after cash back)

Is it worth asking for my PAC in order to get a better deal- any thoughts?

no-ones still not got any deals on the iPhone?!?
  • I just spoke to two very nice men at o2, and finally got myself sorted.

Decided I was more bothered about getting my line rental down than having the newest of new phones. Definitely didn't want a touch phone, and had read some awful reviews on the n96, so decided to see what they'd offer me on the n95 8Gb.

First offer was free phone, 600mins and unlimited texts for £30pm. Asked if he could lower that anymore, and he said he could do it for £24.50pm. Then enquired about the web bolt-on, and he said that it would cost £7.50pm extra, but he'd see if there was anything else he could do. Eventually offered me 600mins, 2000 texts and unlimited web for the £24.50pm. Said I'd think about it for a bit and then call back.

Worked out that this was a 30% discount on the normal £35pm line rental, so I decided to see if I could push that to 40% when I called back. Guy was doubtful but said he'd type it into his computer anyway...and sure enough I was entitled to 40%.

So this is what I accepted:

    600 mins
    2000 texts
    unlimited interent
    free Nokia N95 8gb
    £21pm for 18 months

Apparently the 2000 texts offer is an old offer combined with their new offer, but whatever I'm rather happy with that! Didn't need unlimited texts, but do hit the 1000 limit quite regularly, so this was perfect.

I ditto what an above poster said, it definitely pays to be friendly and have a chat with the people on the phone. And I will add my own personal thoughts - I've spoken to women at retentions previously and they were quite unhelpful, but both the people I spoke to today were male, and they were absolutely lovely.

To be honest it is a bit random if you get anyone who is helpful- more often than not you have to ring back numerous times in a week to get the contract sorted.

Do we have any idea roughly when in the new year prices of 8Gb iPhones might come down, as suggested on here that they will? Or when O2 might start offering them in retentions deals?

If we’re talking early January I’ll wait, but the ancient stand-in phone I’m having to use at the moment is a pain and if it might not be till months later, then I’ll probably just try and get the best no-phone deal and buy one on ebay (maybe still waiting till the new year as ebay prices might drop after Christmas).

Finally what sort of deals will they offer iPhones on? I’ve been paying £30 with no upgrades or contract alterations for the last couple of years and I also have home broadband with O2. Should I be able to get an iPhone with free internet and not all that many minutes/txts needed on a £10-20/month (and hopefully not longer than 18 month) deal? Absolute most I’d pay would be £25 a month and hopefully less.
