    Hi everyone
Been a long time since I posted, so I hope everyone is well and the knitting is coming along nicely!

I wondered whether anyone could help? This month's Simply Knitting has a lovely jumper on the front, knitted in Patons Sorbet...However, if I were to use this yarn it would cost around £70 ...., not exactly MSE. I'm happy to use a cheapy chunky but wondered if there was a substitute similar to the original yarn which is 70% cotton. Have had a good look around, but haven't found anything yet....

    Thanks a lot guys

Snowflake doesn't have cotton in but it is chunky and available in pastel shades at quite a good price on this site:

    Thanks Seakay
Have found a great substitute...not too bothered about the cotton content, would have been nice to find something close to the specified yarn, but I think I've exhausted every avenue!

My credit card is now glowing red hot and I'll have to think of a reason for the yarn arriving...OH has been suspiciously eyeing my stash of late :p

    Hi,
Am new here and just found this thread. I LOVE to knit, knitted lots for LO before he was born and am currently knitting him a blue Aran cardigan. I knitted for my niece and nephew too when they were younger.
My least favourite bit is sewing buttons on, but I love casting on and starting to see a new pattern take shape.
Have collected loads of patterns/needles/wool over the years and much has been bargains......great to make one-offs too.
Hope to hear other knitters stories of bargains etc

I'm hoping someone can help me with this question....

Instead of using circular needles to make a stocking hat can you just use straight ones and follow the pattern as it is, or do you have to change it in any way?

    Hi pink 1970

you can divide the stitches between 4 double ended needles and do it that way.

Hi OrkneyStar, I've just come back from a week's holiday in Orkney (I was born there and lived in Stromness until I was 9).

Anyone heading up there should check out Wool and Wine in Kirkwall because they sell off the yarn Tait & Style no longer need for their products at very reasonable prices. I got 530g of laceweight yarn (masses) for £5.30. Most of it isn't labelled and doesn't have much info about it but there are some lovely colours.
