hello. Have read upto the end of page 8 of this thread, but saving the rest when I have a bit more time. I'm pleased to have found you all. Moliere and Martyn's knitting challenge make me pick up the needles after many years. My mum taught me the basics when I was little and now, about 15 years on I am finding that i love knitting. I have taught myself to cast-on, castoff, increase and decrease, make stripes and yarn forward to make planned 'holes'.
I have been knitting preemie hats and innocent smoothy hats. I managed to make a pair of booties for a pregnant friend and have to sew them up now - have got some links to show me how. Hope it works!
Also found the free jean greenhow link for a rainbow baby and making one for my godson - nearly finished the body and I only started at lunchtime
I really want to knit him a jumper/cardy/hoodie/tank top type item, but all the patterns have complicated stiches in them. I have tried and tried, but can't get rib or moss stitch to work for me. Has anyone got a really simple patter I could try. I have trwled the internet but can't find one I think I can manage.......?
thanks x
Very sorry to sound dim ... !!!!!! is an innocent smoothie hat?"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Quote from Katiepops "Does anyone have any ideas what search terms I could use to find some patterns for larger girlies like myself? I did do a cursory search the other day but didn't get anywhere."
For Ravelry: Go to the pattern tab click on search by tag and then try "plus size"0 -

hey purple ivy. Innocent smoothies ran a project with Sainsbury's last year. They encorouged people to knit hats for their smoothy bottles, which were sold in Sainsbury's stores. For every one with a hat sold, there was a donation to the Help the Aged charity.
They are small, quick to knit and easy to make. They are helpful for a beginner practicing. They provide a suggested pattern and notes on stitches etc.
see here http://www.innocentdrinks.co.uk/thebigknit/?Page=how_to_knitr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -

I think I'm missing something here....why would you need a hat for a bottle of smoothy (eeeuuuuuwww, vile stuff) when you were going to drink the smoothy and then presumably recyle the botttle. The point of this has somewhat passed me by!
Editing..... I've been to the site and still fail to see the point! Never mind!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Hi everyone
Been a long time since I posted, so I hope everyone is well and the knitting is coming along nicely!
I wondered whether anyone could help? This month's Simply Knitting has a lovely jumper on the front, knitted in Patons Sorbet...However, if I were to use this yarn it would cost around £70 ...., not exactly MSE. I'm happy to use a cheapy chunky but wondered if there was a substitute similar to the original yarn which is 70% cotton. Have had a good look around, but haven't found anything yet....
Thanks a lot guys

R.MAC - your bootees are excellent, beautifully knitted and finished off. You are right to be pleased with yourself. There'll be no stopping you now, will there? Well done and thanks for the photo. I love seeing what other people are knitting.
Mrs MONEYPENNY - I would love to see a photo of your shawl - it sounds lovely. You sound like me - plenty of projects lined up in your mind and not enough hours in the day to get them done as fast as you want! I'm resenting any time spent working, cooking or cleaning - it really interferes with your creativity, doesn't it?!!

hiya all.. not posted for a while as my pc went ta-ta and died, then changed providers and.. well thats another story! lol
had all the great pattern sites you all recommended saved in favourites and as you can guess I have lost them all.. so if you dont mind can you post a few links for free patterns that you all use.. and toys etc.. I too LOVE the Jean clown etc toys and have made quite a few in my time.. I also use the basic patterns but amend the outfits to suit whoever I am making for to make them more personalised! and finally, as the Dalek link (featured in MSE tips) has now gone.. did anyone print it or save it, I have got the wool (as I saw it when 1st posted on here agggggges ago!) and now no blinking pattern!! did anyone make it yet but not in the round, as I havent knitted in the round for yonks and dunno if I could remember how! lol
thanks in advance and sorry for long post! xxx0
