    Hi sethsgran

Is it the Jean Greenhowe christmas special booklet you have?

OMG I just love those knitted things! I would love to try and make some but I can only do knit and pearl and don't know how to increase and decrease etc. Is there anywhere I could learn? I would love to knit a Nativity Scene, or some of the Christmas Tea Cosies.

Thank you all so much I actually do have the patterns but I so appreciate your looking. I love the links for the stable and I think my DH will have to get out the tools and make one of those. Thanks everyone

Spendaholic have a go at making one of the nativities I think this one is the easiest http://aww.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=26930

I love Alan Dart patterns but if you are a beginner you might struggle. Why not aim to make Joseph Mary and baby for this christmas then you can add to it next year as you become more experienced.

Thank you Sethsgran for that last link, my mum made me that nativity set years ago and then managed to lose the pattern, she will be thrilled tomorrow when I take her a copy

    Thank you again

  • I know a lot of you on here knit various bits and pieces. I would really like to get into knitting but haven't picked up needles since I was about 7 and used to sit next to my mum and knit, and all I could manage was a scarf!!:o

I just don't know where to start for the best?? I am getting married at the end of this year and would like to knit some cardies for my little bridesmaids, is that aiming too high too soon??

Any hints and tips would be gratefully received! As I said I used to knit when I was small but I doubt I could really remember how now.. in fact when I used to knit my mum actually did all the casting on etc anyway..

    Thanks all
Muddling through debt but can't see any light at the end of the tunnel??!!

    Hi Little belle,

Have a look at this earlier thread that has links and tips on getting started with knitting:

    Learning to Knit

I'll add your post to the The Knitters Thread later where you'll get lots of advice and support.

  • Thanks Pink, I did do a search earlier but there was sooo much to choose from. Will have a look at those when I get home from work :)

Do you have a wool shop near you? Quite often if you go in there they'll be able to point you in the direction of a local knitting group or class, which might be useful for you to get your head round the basics (and handy when you've no idea what you've done wrong lol!). I'm one of those people who finds it much easier to do something when I've been shown it, rather than reading it in a book - diagrams of knitting look horribly complicated but once you see how it should be, it all comes clear - so if you're anything like me a class will be a boon and a blessing :)
