    :hello: Hi,

Newbie to knitting. Currently knitting my first project, you guessed it a SCARF. I have not been following a pattern just knit 1 row and purl the next. Mainly for practice. However I have a problem. How do you 'join' together the next ball of wool?
    Please help!

Not sure if this is the place to post or not, feel free to move it if it isn't! I do knit and have a few scarf, hat & muffler sets on the go for this years Xmas gifts and will be starting a tooth fairy doll for my little neice from a pattern in a magazine I got last week. I haven't had time to read the whole of the thread yet, so apologies if its a 'knitters' only thread, but I wondered if anybody else on here uses a pot holder loom?

My OH got me one for Xmas and I've only just got round to trying to use it, after 3 failed attempts I now have the first of 59 squares needed to make a winter throw to keep us warm on the sofa. So far its cost me nothing as I'm using wool I already had in, had a bit of trouble casting off as you need to use a crochet hook and I'm not very good at crochet, in fact I'm absolutely rubbish at it! But in effect all I had to do was chain the loops together to finish off the square, which is the height of my crochet skills, so I was safe lol! I'm impressed with the first properly finished square, didn't think I'd master the weaving part so quickly, and all being well I'll get a few more done tonight, but just wanted to know if anyone else out there was pot holder looming and what they've made if so, other than throws?

Hi there, Herbaholic. If you visit the Loving Hands Charity website at www.lovinghands.org.uk and join the forum, you will see on the summer donations thread that one of the ladies makes lovely waffley blankets with a loom. I'm sure she'd be able to give you advice and, in return, when you've mastered the technique, you could make a blanket as a donation! It's a fantastic site doing an awful lot for charity. I've been thinking of getting a loom myself because the finished results looks lovely.

Thanks mioliere :) I think the lady on the loving hands website uses a larger loom than me, mine looks like it was (and still is lol!) made for a child, my squares come out 15cm x 15cm (see below). I'll certainly use up all the odd balls of wool I have and make some blankets to send to the lovely people at loving hands. Last night my OH offered to make a larger sized peg loom for me, when I said I could make cushion covers and bags if only the loom was bigger, I can make handles using the stick weaving technique I picked up last year ;)

It's taking me a while but all the 'skills' I'm learning look set to finally pay off and turn into something useful. I'm happy that I've found something to do that doesn't cost money (using up the wool mountain from the loft) and the squares weave/knit up in no time once you know what you're doing.
Thanks again for the link, I have some baby wool so I'll knit up a few hats for them as well :) All I have to do now is find an easy pattern to make a plain jumper for a 9 month old baby, I can't do fancy stitches yet and all I have are cardigan patterns doh!
