Hello everyone!
Cominig in in the "old" year to see what everyone is doing and to report what I have been knitting over the last couple of weeks.
Spirit, so sorry to hear your sad news!
Hope everyone who is currently feeling down will soon be better!
kitty, sounds lovely with your decluttered and tidied craft room! My yarn lives in cramped conditions and whenever I open the drawers it spills all out... So will definitively have to destash next year.
By the way, the Tosh Merino light is such a lovely yarn to work with, used it to knit a cowl for my mum, it is very soft and the colours are amazing but I don't think it is too sturdy. I would probably not knit a whole garnment out of it, only scarfs and that like.
I managed to finish all my Christmas knitting in time and everyone loved their presents (Mum and sister got scarfs, a friend got socks) and I was especially happy that my Mum loved her scarf, as she is the far better knitter than I am, so sees all the mistakes and everything...
I'm now working full steam ahead on the baby blanket and hope that friends baby will more or less stick to the due date mid January so I finish in time. Hope I can finish by Monday and then block it next week so it is ready for when it is needed.
And once this is all done I will go back to some selfish knitting, I have a cowl on the needles which I casted on as a project to take with me for a train journey earlier this week which I will finish first thing. I have soooo many plans for 2017!
I've set myself a knitting goal for 2017. Every 100 meter of yarn used up gives me one point. When I knit something with a lot of lace or fair isle I can multiply the points with 1.5. The points earned can be used to spend on new yarn. When I buy yarn for a new project I can use the points 1:1, but when I buy yarn without knowing what exactly to do with it only 3/4 of the points count. I hope this will keep my from mindles yarn shopping....
So, off to my knitting! Will try to get some progress on the blanket before going over to my parents for dinner, wine and board games. Might pack my knitting as there is a long way from six in the evening till midnight...

Note to self, don't buy yarn!0 -
I was good, only used the voucher for a discount on patterns.
Tempted to use one (or more
) of the yarn ones but I really don't need to be buying any more yarn, at least not until I work through some of my stash.
Ricarda, I like your points system, nice and simple. I need to implement something along those lines for 2017.0 -
I did what seemed like a zillion jobs this morning, trying so hard not to get into that muddle which creeps up. Was sewing loose ends on iced and shoulders were cold, opened a drawer and there was a caplet, which I made years ago and never ever wore. Blimey heck, it is lovely and warm and isn`t getting in my way. I remember making it, crochet with 3 strands of home spun wool from world of wool waste, you buy waste in bundles, card it and spin it. Think it is all merino. A mix of whatever, orange, brown green. Wouldn`t go partying in it but perfect in the house, or driving.
I want to make another one as I have loads of spare spun woollen yarn, cannot find the pattern anywhere but just bought a rav one, with a cowl, so even better. Called Bennington capelet cowl. Should take one evening to make. My largest hook is 10mm, will do fine and I`ll use two strands. Am thinking that this may well be the way to go for christmas presents next year, this plus lacey floaty fingerless gloves from my expensive yarn
Got to write down the uk equivalent of US single crochet and double crochet first
Ricarda, you have more self control than me. The only control I have is if I avoid looking at any yarn site
Repeats to self, finish hitchiker first0 -
The 10mm crochet hook did not work, so I had to order american size s, which is 19mm. I did the 36 chain stitches on 10mm but far too small to go over my head and also a bit too holey, so will def use two strands, which suits me ie stash buster. Ordered the hook from purlescence, another good seller who doesn`t hang about
In the meantime, I think I will look through my alan dart patterns, saw some great christmas gnomes on a ravelry thread and I will be wanting a few for next year, again a stash buster. Iced is completely finished and tbh looks very expensive, cream shropshire sheep. Cost me buttons but could see it in one of those designer shops with a fancy label. Steaming and very light pressing worked so well, can do this with pure wool
At a loose end today, just hitchiker and found the matching hat. I`ll turn that around, a welcome day of leisure and I am not going to be looking for jobs, bank holiday after all

I fancy making myself something small that will stretch me a bit ie make me concentrate, so I found a free download from rav. It is a fair aisle hat and I already have enough shetland bits from jamiesons

I have been knitting hell for leather lately and finished another hitchiker last night. Pleased that I have busted some stash though. I`ll be quite pleased to slow down for a while hence the hat. People who don`t knit don`t know what they are missing0 -
Happy New Year everyone, both my sons and their wife/partner and my three grandchildren have just left after having a lovely dinner. I am now slumped on the couch trying to find the energy to get up and clear the kitchen. My plan is to get up at 8 and tidy up and mop kitchen floor before Silent Witness comes on at 9. I shouldn't be wasting my time online but I am trying to syke myself up to get moving.
I am getting on really well with the pink gilet and hoping to finish back tomorrow. I'm going to make it 3 or 4 inches longer than the pattern so will work that out tonight.
Kittie, I loved the Lacey cardigan you were doing - have you finished it? I'd love to see a photo.
Four minutes left till I drag mysel off the couch ...........

PHEW ....... Amazing what you can do when you're on a deadline.
Dishes all washed and away, leftovers all divided into dishes and in fridge or freezer, all cheeses ( that were never touched) back in the fridge. The Xmas tablecloths and towels all washed, hoping that the weather forecast is correct and I'll get them hung out tomorrow. The kitchen floor wash and I'm now sitting with a Bailey as Silent Witness starts and of course, I'm going to be knitting xxDebt free - Mortgage free - Work free ( in that order)

oh blimey, plumduff, that lacey cardigan is queued up on my to do list in the future. Am seriously trying to stash bust first, wanting to use up spun woollen yarns that I made in the early days, not of even thickness, however will look good if crocheted in twos, a thicker plus a thinner, all sheepie shades. Just waiting eagerly for that large crochet hook to arrive. Sigh, in the old days, you could just pop out to a local shop to get these things.
Wd with the deadline, what a sense of satisfaction and well deserved baileys0 -
The hat I was struggling with before Christmas I eventually finished and made two more.
I made myself a navy jumper over Christmas. I was looking forward to using DPNs to make some gloves to match. I have a 1930s pattern for them. I got it free from PurpleKittyYarns.com
I think it is originally an English pattern that has partly been altered to be an American one. I just started the first increase row both for the cables on the back of the hand and for the thumb.
I thought it was wrong but no it just keeps switching from American to English, so it's very confusing.
Happy New Year everyone.0
