Happy new year to you all. I am on a mission but this time it is sorting and tidying and trying to stash bust on the way. I have to start 2017 with a neater craft room, yes I know I am lucky in that I have a room but everyone has flown the nest and crafting is what keeps me going, so my crafts have a room and I am not talking sewing or carving
I started with books this morning and this includes many many years worth and patterns and spinning magazines. You name it, I have it, kim hargreaves, rowan, dyeing, swirl, spinning, fleece, carders, weaving. Socks, felted bags, ganseys, on and on and by golly they are nice to hold and read and I will not get rid of any except baby and toddler patterns, off to the cs with them, to be passed onto someone who can use them.
Ok, today I start with organising my printed out patterns and cut outs, all will be filed in ring files, which will also divide areas on shelves, so I have some sort of order. I have about 70+ alan dart patterns and they are awesome and some are now rare, all in two folders, I will probably keep them because flipping through just now, it was a case of ooh I like that. The folders would sell like a shot but I cannot do it
The best book that I have for knitting and new techniques, simply and clearly written, is by montise stanley called the knitters handbook, mine was second hand and even now, I find new and neater ways of doing things, I have to recommend that book and there are some second hand on amazon. I forgot I had it but it is now at eye level and handy
Another thing that I want to do today is sew a hanging holder for my circular needles. I will just need to put a hook on the side of a tall wooden unit and sewing will not take long. A hemmed back and a hemmed front, sewn together via top and bottom and in channels, horizontal labelled channels, I am wanted to keep these needles as straight as I can
A full day is coming up, starting with plying spun singles, skeining and washing skeins. People might think I, a retired widow, have empty days but little do they know, I haven`t a minute. It really is blissful to be able to do all this stuff, often with the radio on0 -
I`m cream crackered, worked solid for 8 hours but at least I now have a bit of spare space in the craft room and can see the floor. Went through all my downloaded ravelry patterns and filed them all, got some lovely patterns, which I completely forgot about. I already made hawser by Jared Flood, it is a lovely feminine aran ie shaped for a woman and I also have kendrick, which is definitely going to be on my to-do list.
I found sock patterns that I had completely forgotten about and lots more besides. This evening I am back to an easy, comfortable hitchiker using two strands of regia and 4mm needles. Reminding me that I have not made that circular holder, oh well, another day. I am so grateful that I have the energy to be doing all this, I just wish that I could stay tidy0 -
Hi Kittie, I'm sitting shattered as well after decluttering all the kitchen cupboards today. The things I've kept for years and never used are all going to the charity shop. I'm being really strict with myself this time and not keeping things just in case ................
Yesterday I went to Glasgow to spend some Xmas vouchers. I went into the Works shop and bought some great knitting and sewing books - all under £5. I'm half way through knitting a gilet for myself with moss stitch bands and collar but I think it's going to be a tight so I'm going to rip it back tonight. To be honest I've gotten a bit fed up with it so may just start something else.
Happy knitting xxDebt free - Mortgage free - Work free ( in that order)

what a lovely sight, went into my craft room and my heart didn`t sink. Decluttering is good isn`t it plumduff, I am always amazed at how the mess spreads into other rooms when de-cluttering. I daren`t do my kitchen yet
My new skeins of spun wool are dry and the thickness looks just right this time. I plied them with a wider oriface so that one strand was thrown around the other and the yarn now has a texture, which perfectly matches the rest of the top, iced cardigan. I did start the sleeves the other day but the texture wasn`t right, so I ripped them back
What do you think of this cardigan? I actually like the curve down to the back and it looks nice and light but obviously not a hard wearing everyday garment

If I ever make it, then I will buy good yarn, something that will last. It is fingering so is probably around 3 ply. Made by hundreds of people and no seaming. Mmmm, might not wait that long to make it, after afterlight, once I have finished hitchiker and iced. Wish I had 4 arms, could have two sets on the go, except my brain wouldn`t cope0 -
Kittie that cardi would drive me insane, fast. I'm not lace knitter :eek:0

I've had hitofude on my favourites list for ages - need to figure out what I want to use to make it...that's the trick with those "special" garments, they need to be just right so that they can be worn every chance they get. As you say, kittie, it's not exactly a "throw on over anything all the time" sort of garment.0
