The lack of exercise really worries me. I'm too knackered to do much at all, some days it takes me all my time to get up a few times to make tea and go to the loo, What I try to do is as maggie says - get up and do a wee thing then sit for a bit. Keep alternating that. On good days I can do most housework but hoovering gets me pouring with sweat and shaking like hell, so I do one room and he does the rest. In summer I hope I'm ok enough to do some gardening, missed the whole of last year and never touched it. But I do feel guilty if I get up and start knitting right away - that always makes me feel lazy and I can't settle.

According to one of the Yarn Harlot books knitting does use slightly more calories per hour than crochet .I'm sure it reduces stress though.

Cycling is difficult around here-no cycle lanes and narrow busy roads so my main exercise is walking.

At the moment I'm trying to use up all the oddments in my stash making hats and bonding squares for the neonatal unit, hats for the homeless shelter and blanket squares. My DD is pregnant but I don't want to start knitting for her yet. It's silly of me perhaps but she had a miscarriage last year so I'm a bit stressed about this pregnancy. .

yes, I agree that walking around the house is not exercise, it is better than sitting but not enough.

I am going to have to get back to rebounding, boiiing boiiiing on the landing, I find it easier if I put a cd on and then go from song A to song D. I can knit for ages and not get bored but set excercise bores me silly.

Riding my bike was good, plenty of hillocks, so good ups and downs, gentle enough but with episodes of working my heart a bit more. I heard about osteoporosis on radio 4 this morning and remember fitting star jumps into my day, having been to the loo first :D. Boiiinging on the rebounder is very good for this. They mentioned D3 as being vital, I have been taking it for 9 years, having been on the d`action programme, so I know the optimum level for me

Lol, all about knitting plus staying healthy. Very important

Oh man, me too, especially the guilt over knitting.

I also try and alternate activity/exercise (if walking the dogs for 10min counts as exercise these days) with rest periods.

jan, I had some nasty trolling responses when I was new on rav and asked about spinning on the american thread. The uk thread was lovely

I started and finished a very warm crocheted caplet yesterday afternoon, didn`t make a cowl but instead used dc (uk) and tapered the neckline in, so it rests below the neck but snug. The 19mm hook is like a broomstick and it ate the yarn, was an excellent stash buster and I can see the possibilities for home decor, like pouffes and footstools. Something on radio 4 yesterday about more and more are turning to home crafting, can only be a good thing. Had to remember that I was using american abbreviations and also refined the row joins to be neater. I would make a caplet if I had lots of yarn stash to use up, could go up to using 4 strands at once. Not an item of beauty but very useful even as a covering when reading in bed

Back to elegant afterlight today but feeling satisfied, still, after exercise and caplet yesterday. More socks may well be on my list soon, I have opal yarn and am so loving the hm socks, soft and warm and cosy

Thanks Kittie- that has cheered me up. I was rather sensitive but I asked quite a general question and lots of people seemed to read the question but didn`t answer. I was told they couldn`t help unless the pattern was on the Ravelry database( no) or I had the correct name of the pattern ( yes!) I felt about 5 and a half.

Anyway I thanked her and said I had some help elsewhere.....! :)

yesterday afternoon, I decided to make a hat, I wanted a very warm pull-on that was mindless knitting. I had balls of homespun bfl, blue faced leaicester which is silky, soft and very warm. It was quite thick and showed the wool in between the twists, some of my early beginning spinning. I made a fab garter stitch hat. 48 sts on 7_7.5mm straight needles, 9 inches, then just decreased with a k2tog evenly on a few alternating rows. Pulled yarn through and stitched the side. I am very pleased with that hat and have placed a marker in that book as I will make it again. Perfect for cycling, Cannot beat pure wool for warmth

Afterlight continues, very fine and thin needles, so will take an age. I need to alternate with quicker, less boring, knitting. Needed a knitting break last night, so carried on with some fine spinning of falkland wool, bought months ago, cost less than £2 for 100g. Hoping to eventually make 3 ply (twist) in dk or aran weight

Cycling at 11, a grey day but no fog, says she trying to get some oomph

I think your experience is unusual, people are very good at answering questions and usually within minutes thanks to the worldwide membership.

I don't know where you posted your question but I searched the main boards especially 'Patterns' and 'Techniques' and can't see anyone asking questions about a dog jumper with cables. There are two groups for Woman's Weekly magazine and the question isn't there either.

I can only guess that maybe you asked your question in a group that is aimed at a different topic/magazine and that was why you didn't get a helpful response.

BTW is it this pattern? http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/dog-jumper-with-cables
