Hi everyone, I am going mad knitting and quilting just now as my sister and I are doing a baby/craft stall at a Baby Event on 14th May. I have some cot quilts and baby fleeces. I've also got about 8 baby knitted sets. I am trying to clear out all my fabric by making things for this sale. I have 3 cotbed quilts to make and the spare material is being made into dolls pram sets. I am also knitting more baby sets.
Does anyone know best online site to buy wadding, it's so expensive locally. I use the 80% cotton one. I've never done a craft stall before and am quite excited. I don't know how successful it'll be but at least it's making me minimise my stash.
Elizabeth, I had a peek at your knits, crochet and quilting - really lovely. I love the little cardigan.
Must go now, I've got a timetable to keep to
Happy knitting xx
PS Mary, that cable cardigan is really nice , hope your shoulders get better soon. My shoulders bothering me as well just now because I'm doing too much Debt free - Mortgage free - Work free ( in that order)

Hi all you knitters. I hope you don't mind me butting in your thread and helping me out with a query?
My dgs is wanting me to knit a gilet in his team colour (royal blue). Pattern is
King Cole chunky 3269, but they don't do the colour nor can i get any RB chunky in my local shops. I've found some on line with the tension 14 sts and 20 rows on 6mm needles but patterns is 15sts and 19 rows on 7mm!
My query is, if I buy dk and double or treble it, would that be a substitute? And if so, do I still buy 300g needed as per pattern, or do I have to buy double the amount?
If I get the one on line (stylecraft sirdar) which is quite a bit cheaper, should I just play about with the needles till I match the correct tension?
No wonder I'm confused. Sometimes I think I start these projects without thinking them through properly!,
Thanks for your time in reading this.0 -
Hi Margaret, I've often used 2 strands of DK instead of chunky and it's always worked out ok. Might be better to do a tension square first.
To calculate amount of yarn needed check the ball band for the chunky wool.
It will tell you how many yard/metres are in the ball.
Multiply this by the number of balls needed.
This will give you total yardage required.
Divide total yardage by number of yards in DK ball.
Double this as using yarn double.
I have no idea if you understand any of this as I am awful at explaining. If not, just let me know the wool you are substiting and the DK wool and I shall calculate for you.

Morning all, I hope everyone is well. Can't believe how quiet this thread has gone.
Just finished knitted my first ever pair of socks on dpns, it was somewhat out of my comfort zone but I did it. The first one looked ok but a little baggy, the 2nd one looks and fits great then I realised that I hadn't followed the pattern correctly on the heel flap, so I've pulled that one back down to just before that and am restarting it.
Sonething I'll definately have a go at again as it was ally enjoyable and satisfying to master.
This is the pattern/walk through tutorial I followed it was brilliant. If I can do it anyone can.

Congrats on the socks! I'm almost done with my first fair isle sock - it's taken about 2 months as I had to frog a few times to get the right fit.0

I'm still here.... still knitting my way through my wool stash and have made a number of baby cardigans/rompers/hats/blankets.....
Currently making a baby blankets with knited patterned squares in a grape purple colour..... it's very slow going but that's mainly due to the fluey bug I've had for weeks now and lack of motivation!
What is everyone else knitting?!
