    Can I join in?

I'm a relative new knitter, having started only three years ago and wasn't really too interested at first, so only really knitting for about 1 1/2 years.

Currently I'm working on a lace shawl which is very fiddly and I keep messing it up and having to unknit... So have started a very simple hat for charity with bulky yarn and 9 mm needles as a break from it.

Have ordered yarn yesterday for a striped jumper for myself and a baby blanket for a friends baby due in January. So as soon the yarn arrives I will drop everything else and start my jumper. Can't wait. It is a very simple knit mostly worked in rounds, so not much purling which is great. I got much quicker doing it but it still slows me down a lot, so prefere knitting over purling.

I'm making a cardigan for myself, it is the newborn vatebrae but for adults! I was gifted some beautiful sirdar recycled wool and it is perfect! I managed 2 rows at the park today whilst supervising the little hinges before they started to bicker! It is top down all in one and I almost ready to divide for the sleeves.... currently have 250+stitches on the go

I knitted both the kiddy vertebrae and the mummy vertebrea and it it such a lovely project. I tried the kids one as a testrun to see if I'm alredy on a cardigan-knitting-level and it worked fine, so then did the adult version for myself and love it. Can't wait for fall so that I can wear it.

Have a nice evening everyone! I will now go on with hat-knitting.

Hi everyone, I've just discovered on another thread how to post a picture on MSE. So going to post photo of cardigan I've knitted for daughter in law's Xmas. I posted a link before but now I can post a pic 😄😄😄. I'm nearly finished chunky waistcoat for myself, I've just to do armbands and pocket tops, so hopefully that will be finished soon.

Happy knitting everyone and here's the photo xx

    Beautiful work Plum!

I'm still plodding on with my frontless cardi, knitting is restricted to knit and knatter groups as the little Hinge's are keeping me busy in the school holidays!

I have started some mittens for the Little H's Xmas stockings and some crocheted hats thinking owls or rotten minions!

  • Hi, my children are all in their thirties now but I still remember the school holidays and how all my knitting/sewing came to a crawl when the kids were off school. Enjoy them Mary, they grow up too fast and your knitting will still be there when your children have all flown the nest.

I have finished knitting my waistcoat but will have to block it as the cables on the front have pulled the knitting in so much that cardi is about 2 sizes too small for me. I'll post I pic next week once it's stretched enough to fit me :rotfl:

    Happy knitting xx

  • Evening folks

The cardigan is lovely Plum! I especially like the collar.

I started my striped sweater on Friday evening. It is top down and you knit two small parts of the shoulders and then cast on the neckline between them. It is the first time I have to cast on mid work. So started on Friday and had a late night session trying to find out what I have to do with the help of youtube videos. Messed up... Decided to go to bed... Travelled a good hour by train yesterday and had another few tries until I found a much easier option to do so... The man sitting next to me thought it was too funny...
Well, I eventually managed but dropped some of my newly casted on stitches in the next row... Unravelled... Casted on... Dropped stitches... Took me about four attempts until it worked out and I knitted 10 rows until my Mum pointed out that it was all very lose... Which she was right... I was exactly in gauge but it was ways to lose and "see through"... So we then decided that I should start again, knit the next bigger size and frequently try it on while working on it to adjust if needed. Took me another couple of attempts to get it working... So a whole weekend of knitting for the first two inches...
I expect it to take ages to finish...

Started my first pair of socks lately. A 87 year old family friend wants to teach me how to knit socks ever since I told her that I took up knitting. I wasn't too interessted in sock knitting but two weeks ago I decided to give it a go. She was quite excited about it and told me how much I have to knit until the heel and then she will teach me how to knit heels. She already called one evening last week just to check if I'm still working on it...
One sock is now ready so I will call her tomorrow and see when she has time. She is very busy all the time, so I guess it will be a week or two until we can meet, so plenty of time to get the second sock ready as well...

Plumduff, I don't envy you... I hate blocking... I blocked my cardigan by laying it on the floor on a towel. Somehow it got much longer... No idea how as gravity could surely not have played a part...

Mary, how far are you with the Mummy Vertebrea? At least the rows get much shorter once you have separeted the sleeves...

Nothing like froggin' and repeating to get you frustrated!! I hope it's working out for you now!

I'm almost to the bottom ribbing on my newborn Vert, then the sleeves and front ribbing to do.... slow progress at the moment as I have 3 children home and off school that need entertaining :rotfl:

I've just started the easy peasy socks on ravelry in a lovely warm yarn for winter now we have moved to a house without any carpets downstairs (floorboards and tiles). I think I'll turn them into slipper socks to keep me toasty at home :-)
  • Evening everyone

I had to frog it again... Had to cast on 59 stitches for the neckline. Double and tripple checked it on Saturday... But obviously was too tired to count as I found out, after knitting a good 10 rows that I only casted on 49...
I'm now again at the very beginning, having just finished the first inch or so of it.. Hope it will work out now...

At least the sock knitting is working out...

Mary, I found the sleeves of the cardigans ways too big, it might work out for babies where you want it lose for easier dressing/undressing, but for the adult version they are far too wide. I made a long sleeve and decreased every 8. row as suggested in the pattern. Could fit a whole hand through the edge of it and frogged it in the end. Can't remember how exactly I did it, but I think I then decreased every 8. row four times and then went on to do so every 5. row and it worked quite well.
