Pink 1970 - I got the pretty in punk book as a reward for myself for going without diet coke for a month. You could perhaps sell it to DH in the same way, you know, give up something for lent, reward with book. The only thing I will say is that it is very American so you will have to do a lot of translating.
If you are willing to pm me your address I am happy to mail you a copy of the holey jumper in there, but I am afraid it is unlikely to be a quick turnaround. Not only are Jan & Feb my worst times of year for depression, but DS's christening is coming up with loads of people having hissy fits and the house looks like the 'before' on a prozac advert
I knit as therapy - best get back to that tunic.Always another chapter0 -
Hev - Thank you for the offer, :j will pm my address for you.
Doesn't matter how long it takes so no worries.
I have looked on Ebay and Amazon and both books are a little bit pricey.
Hope all goes well with the christening.PinkPunkBird

The problem that I am having at the moment is that I know what I want to knit, but I can't find patterns that match my expectations. I know that I could adapt a similar pattern, but I'm not too confident on how to do this.
What I think I need is a book that explains how to adapt patterns (or make your own up) without me having to go throught lots or trial and error, trying to work out the best type of yarn and needles, etc.
Can anyone recommend a suitable "workbook" that might help me.
Thanks in advance0 -
I am wanting to add to my old style skills and am looking at learning to crochet and/or knit but I really don't know where to start.
Can anyone recommend any good books or websites so I could teach myself ??
I must make it clear I am a total beginner !!

Hiya,
I've added your post onto a thread loaded with help and advice on knitting which includes books websites and materiel sources.
You'll need to read from the beginning to catch up.
As for the crochet side of things...

Just wondering if anyone has any soft toy patterns which use the lovely soft scarf wools which are around. My Mum saw a kit in Lakeland which included everything, pattern, needles, wool, stuffing etc but all we need is a pattern. Just thinking ahead for the shoebox time of year and thought something cuddly in this type of wool would go down well.0

Have you thought of looking for a knitting club near you? Keen knitters are always willing to help a newbie, or maybe you have a knitting neighbour. Start off simple, even if it's just a scarf, so plain knitting to get you used to holding the wool and needles comfortably (and not everyone holds them the same!) Some of the Stitch and !!!!! books have quite basic stuff, but try looking in the library or charity shops before you pay out too much! If I was closer, I'd offer. Hi Ollie - I'm so glad you have had your invitation. I must admit, I haven't had time to go on there for a few days but I will do later this afternoon, I think.
