Love the jumper! Any chance someone could lend me a copy of the pattern or tell me where I could get hold of a copy?
Thanks0 -
Gosh I remember those from the 80s - I did one all in black for a gothish art student friend - you had to use one 10mm and one 20mm needle or something like that - anyone remember what they were called? there was a real vogue for them for a year or so because they made is so quick for a beginner to finish a garment
I think they were called Odd Pins!! Where they?0 -

The book is called 'Pretty in Punk' which I got as a reward for not drinking diet coke for a month. (sadly fallen off the wagon).
I wouldn't attempt that sweater (though I don't mind cables). The book is written in American.
I'll happily send copies of patterns I sent to Pink.1970 if you'll pm me your address, but can't guarantee turn around time - it's hell here.Always another chapter0 -
Started this on friday, had weekend off but finished it yesterday.
Hev - Thanks for the patterns.
Wow!!! I wouldn't even dare to attempt it, but it looks fantastic.
What yarn did you use? I have a goth friend who would love a purple and black version, if I could get my courage up.
On that note - I have a dilemma. I bought from Readicut a bargain bag of 10 x 50g balls of purple fluffy wool and a pot luck of three patterns. The patterns were no good to me so I then went and bought another pattern with a sweater, with a view to making it for my friend for Christmas.
Now, here's the dilemma. I suspect that if I have guessed her measurements right, I will need one ball more than I have. So, do I look for another pattern, try and knit it anyway because usually I end up with loads left over, see if I can find one more ball of the wool in the same dye lot, knit it one inch shorter under the arms... ? I should have learned by now. The measurements btw are for 'actual size' and there is not much give in the yarn. Sigh.Always another chapter0 -
Hev - I used Sirdar Bonus Double Knit, and 8mm needles. I adapted the stripey mohair pattern, basically all I did was use same amount of stitches and measurements but just did a different stitch ( yarn round needles once or twice every now and then to give the large loop ) you just have to be careful with the decreasing/increasing for armpits and sleeve tops.
Think I may attempt another one in a different colourway. Just have to see what goes with flourescent pink hair now!! :eek:PinkPunkBird

It's funny, I was only looking at my old patterns the other week and I came across some for Ffizzknits by Sirdar. Made loads of these for dd years ago, you could finish one in a couple of evenings!

My mum tried years ago to teach me to knit, and I could never get the hang of it (all fingers and thumbs).
Now, some 30 years later and embracing everything OS, I'd like to have another go. So can anyone recommend a really basic 'learn to knit' book please, that has clear instructions (and diagrams)?
I'd just like to be able to knit some dishcloths ...

Hi madmittens and welcome
If you go to the following http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9XImtoQmZ8 it's a video showing you how to knit
There's quite a few different ones to look at... and they all look easy to follow so they should be helpful
