    Hi all.

Have just finished a load of scarves for christmas presents this year. One for my mother, mother in law, grandmother in law, dad, and my two girls. I even tried to make ear warmers for my daughter and it turned out too small but it is a perfect mobile phone holder instead (so not wasted, my stepdaughter will like it i hope!). :j

I have also finished a bag for my youngest daughter, it just needs sewing up (yuk!!!) so have begun a cropped top for myself (to see if I can remember how to follow a normal pattern and make something other than a scarf), It says it can be knitted with 3 x 100g balls of wool so the bargain 400g ball i got in the supermarket is being used to see if it's true. It's in pale blue so if it works i'm going to try the cardigan that comes with it. But my problem is I'm really impatient and like to see things done quickly (in my house thats a miracle!).:p

Will try to get a memory card for my camera (cant find them cos hubby moved them) and will post some photos for you all to see.

Hope you are all having a good day

My mum used to look after an old guy (98 when he died) and he and his wife never had children. They used to sit together at night and make the most beautiful embroideries. I've got a tablecloth that he did and it's absolutely fantastic. I felt so sorry for him when his eyesight failed and he couldn't do it any longer. His workmanship was all the more surprising when you learn that he used to work at the pit and had hands like shovels, just goes to show that a man's man can also have a gentler side.

Like the look of this bag http://www.berroco.com/exclusives/brea/brea.html and I'm planning on starting it as soon as my bride and groom dolls are finished. What thickness of wool would I need if I'm using 5.5mm needles?

I'd say that you need a good chunky - probably not an acrylic chunky as I find that 100% acrylic plain chunky knits on 5mm.

My own knitting news is that I finished the boa scarf for my sister just in time to post yesterday, it arrived today and she loves it so I'm very chuffed.

I'm contemplating my first ever pair of socks for my next project, but in the meantime I'm doing myself another dishcloth because the rugby is on and I can cope with long pauses in the work when it's a simple dishcloth but not when it's a sock because that is something new plus it involves several needles!
  • I've actually finished a project successfully! lol. Made myself a bag *and* lined it, so feeling very proud of myself now. It wasn't from a pattern for a bag, but a blanket pattern I found on ravelry, erm, called, erm, Pretty Punk I think (it was black and pink and had a skull&crossbones pattern on it!), so I now have a black and white pirate handbag! Woooooo!

Can't decide what to do next... Still knitting random squares for my blanket, but I'm not exactly rushing to get that finished... Been tempted to try a pair of socks but I'm not sure I'm feeling brave enough yet! There's a fab pattern for a Leprechaun in this months Simply Knitting which is on my list, so depending on if I can find the colour wool I want, that might be next!

Sorry for repeating the question: Pipkin, how is your book called?

Can anyone recommend a nice book of projects for beginners? Nothing too challenging, please, but nice outcomes.

    The book is called:

25 Cushions To Knit by Debbie Abrahams

    I bought it on amazon:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=cushions+to+knit&Go.x=11&Go.y=8

They have it for 2 pounds 68 just now!!!!

Hi all - I've just spent the last hour happily trawling through this website http://www.berroco.com/pattern_library.html which has loads of free knitting and crochet patterns for clothing, bags, children's clothes, Christmas decorations, hats, scarves, gloves, socks, toys, even some crochet jewellery. I dread to think how much paper and ink I've got through, printing my favourites off. I now have several ideas for presents - the only problem is which one to do first! I can see my huge stash of wool being really dented now. You can also sign up to their newsletter (you don't have to, though, you can still print off the patterns).

Anyway, it's well worth a look!

    Isn't this internet thingy brilliant?!

That is a great site link, Mioliere - thanks very much!:T - spotted a lovely case for crochet hooks that is actually crocheted and then felted. What a great idea. Mine is plastic and 30+ years old with the zip coming away from the plastic:confused: - definitely needs replacing. AND it should work by enlarging the design for knitting needles as well :j .

All the ones I've seen so far have been sewn ones that have been quite complicated patterns or very expensive to buy the finished item - so this quite a find for me :D .

I am resisting clicking on a link for more patterns. I really do not need any more patterns. Must repeat to self, no more patterns...

Readicut catalogue came today, with some lovely wool featured.

Desperately trying to resist that as well!

Trouble is, I will get really into knitting, then a switch will flick and all I will want to do is cross stitch but I will have loads of half finished projects around. I know myself too well.

Of course, I could just get in one lot of wool...
    Always another chapter
