Wish me luck, I'm going in and I may be some time. I've decided as I love cable, but get disheartened if it goes wrong and my knitting is supposed to be therapy, I shall make a blanket from knitted squares, 4 different designs, 5 of each, in a wool alpaca mix in cream, denim and dark blue. http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/us/pattern.php?id=4769&lang=us

    Hi All,
I've litterally JUST started knitting so I was hoping to join you if you'll have me.

I bought the Knit & Stitch magazine (I realise it's probably a con in the long run but I'll keep it going for a while to see for myself) so i've knitted the first of my squares and I've bought a book from The Book People who visit the office on How to Knit Wild Animals (which I'm thrilled about :D).

I'll no doubt be on here asking for help when it arrives tomorrow!

Us size 5mm are uk size 6. Its made with an aran weight wool. I recommend knitting a sample square from some odd wool, especially for the main pattern square which is quite complicated.

My wool arrived today and I'm a little disappointed as there isn't much difference between the two blues :(

    Thanks :D

I bought yarn & needles last night for my first project (a cowl) so I'm looking forward to getting stuck in this weekend.

Can anyone point me in the direction of nice storage options for yarn/needles/unfinished projects?
  • Hi all, not knitting related but can anyone help me with ideas as what to do with a finished cross stitch? I've completed a cat with the letter "J" which is on aida a tad smaller than A4 and the pattern is about 6" x 6". I was going to frame it, but I always seem to do that. Any ideas? It's for DMIL's birthday.
I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:

    Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping some of you will be able to put my mind at rest.
You will have gathered from my previous posts that I am quite new to knitting, and certainly no expert on types of yarn.
As cost is an issue, and I have a lot of items to knit this year, I was delighted to find Hayfield's Bonus machine washable/tumble dryable Acrylic yarn in my local wool shop @ £1.89/100g ball.
I have since been talking to a VERY experienced knitter, who told me to avoid 'Acrylic' like the plague..as it would start off being big enough for the youngest child, and end up big enough for the eldest !
As much as I need to keep my costs down, it is false economy if the item isn't servicable to the recipient. I'm half ways through my first jumper, so will go on to finish it now...but would you ladies advise me not to buy any more??
    Thanks a million,

    Jackie

I've also only recently taken up hand knitting but years ago used to machine knit and used acrylic all the time. Can't say I found a problem with jumpers stretching although maybe that's something to do with tumbledrying rather than washing?
