    Thanks Orkney

I did follow a tutorial, but it wasn't very good (translated from French) so it took a while and was a bit fiddly.

Think I mentioned on MSE about seeing Rumours of Fleetwood Mac as my OH is working with them - excellent band if anyone has the opportunity of seeing them :D

Louise, the lead singer, is pregnant so I made this for her

She was so excited that I made these to match

I am now making a little cuddle cloth to use up the last of the yarn and complete the set.

I know it's not knitting, but I've just made this case to hold my interchangeable needles.

I'm a beginning knitter, mostly learned through online videos and have just finished my first baby cardigan, ready to sew it together. It was all going well until I tried to sew in the sleeves to the armholes. They are 'set-in' sleeves but the number of stitches is not the same for the sleeve top and armhole. Also, the way the decreases and cast off bits on the top of the sleeve work, some of the seaming is side to side and some is horizontal to vertical (if that makes sense?). How do I sew the sleeve in evenly and what type of seam should I use? Can anyone help or recommend an online guide I could look at?

Thanks for the links, they are both really helpful and I'm starting to feel brave enough to have another go at it!

Finished the second of a pair of socks I started a couple of weeks ago (stocking stitch, short row toes/heels, and 'princess' sole).

    Hi Orkneystar

I hope you don't mind me asking but you seem to be the expert when it comes to socks :)

I am knitting a pair for my son who is 4 months old and it has all gone fine except at the point where I pick up my stitches down the sides I seem to end up with a little hole where I pick up the last stitch on either side. I'm not sure if it's because I should pick up the bit just after the last 'V' or the way I'm picking up and knitting the 'V' if you see what I mean. How can I stop getting these holes appearing?
    Did owe £9,951.96

Now helping hubby pay off loan. Finally paid off :j

Well these socks are short row heel socks, and I presume you are talking about heel flap/gusset socks (where you pick up stitches down the side of the gusset) ?

Holes can easily appear if you are using a larger needle than ideal for the yarn, but also if not. It is a good idea to pick up a stitch in the corner (where the flap joins top of sock), and this will help get rid of holes (some folk might even do two stitches there). I find sometimes the holes show when knitting but not so much when on, as the pressure is sitting differently.

I have got my gusset heels pretty much so I am happy with their neatness, hence I am now practising getting short row heels as neat (incidentally they are actually easier imho, especially for wee socks).

And as for expert, hmmm, more like the nutter who can't stop knitting socks ? ;)

Yes actually. As I do more short row heels I am preferring them (for now lol) and the princess sole was easy too, just obviously a bit more time consuming than all knit.
