Just finished this beanie for DS, using some acrylics lurking in my stash. Tend to use more wools or wool blends these days, but this is nice and bright and will wash well:Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Another quick headband for me, the yarn cost me all of 60p for a ball and a half (and still have some left). It is Debbie Bless Merino Chunky too!
I love these headbands for keeping my ears warm!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

years ago most of babies/kids patterns used quicknit, quickerknit, baby quickerknit. but i havent seen this type around for years.

According to this a UK number 4 is a 6mm in new money, which to me would mean this is a chunky yarn (or a very thick aran), and so would be looking for patterns using that sort of yarn.
I have come across the name 'quick knit' or similar before, but it doesn't really inform me what thickness it is!
PS The post below contradicts this, but may well make more sense

A number 4 hook US = 3.5mm (just to cause more confusion!)
The Q about quick(er) knit yarn has been asked on Kemps and Coates discussion boards and another called loving hands ( I think it is a knitting forum). It seems that quick knit yarn was between 4ply and DK so the advice is usually to make tension squares to decide. Also, if your pattern is meant to be a lacy fabric then larger hook/needles would be used for a yarn that would normally be used with smaller.

well, ive made a start (didnt have the yarn only the pattern. its a very old one and its not an american pattern), and ive made the start with double knitting. BIG mistake. its turning out absolutely HUGE so wont be doing any more to this. i will get a new pattern....safest way i think. thanks to all who answered.
although i do also have a NEW pattern already, of a completely different jacket, using 4 ply yarn, so thats the way forward. the old pattern was a favourite when my daughter was born 41 years ago. and i thought it would be nice to do one for my newest grand daughter.
thanks to all again.xx0 -
