OK. Just trying to sign up to ravelry following the advice on here. While it's going through the motions, any chance of a bit more advice?

I've bought some dk baby wool (suckered by the special offer in the wool shop a couple of weeks ago). A friend is going on mat leave soon and I hoped to knit something for her before she goes. Just found out its earlier than I realised.

I have absolutely LOADS of needles and knitting tools, but they are all packed up in the furthest recesses of one of the several places that we're storing stuff while we're doing building work. I knitted a peppa pig for my niece, so bought a set of 3.5mm needles just for that - despite probably having several pairs already. I want to avoid purchasing any more if poss, so is it possible to search for a baby-something pattern which uses just dk wool and 3.5mm needles? Or does anyone have any links which are suitable. Ideally something simple as there's only a couple of weeks in which to get it done before I'd have to put it in the post!

This is what came up on Ravelry for 3.5mm needles and DK. Not sure how much yarn you have, but these are all free patterns with photographs.

Hello ladies, I have been given a partly knitted waistcoat by a friend so that I can re-use the wool. It is lovely Jaeger wool/silk mixture. It's been lying partly knitted for about 15 years. There are no bands from the wool with it so the only details I have are that it is 60% wool 40% silk (got this from the pattern she had been knitting). There is about 130gms and I thought I'd knit socks with it. Don't even know if it's DK or 4ply but it looks more like 4 ply. Now I've unravelled it into rough hanks as I'm sure it should be washed before using but I've never done this before and am looking for advice. I've got laundry product for hand washing wool but then what do I do with it? Do I just wring it out and leave to dry and then rewind into balls? Any advice welcome, thank you.

If you go to this link:

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230739739907&clk_rvr_id=339324496234

and enlarge the second pic you can see the washing instructions on the label - it's handwash, no iron, no tumble dry.
The label also gives you the yardage (25g = 125yds/115m) so if you weigh it you will be able to work out how much you have and find another pattern.

gives step-by-step instructions for recycling unravelled yarn.

Hi, does anybody have a copy of this software? If so, is it worth spending the money - the cheapest I've found is on eBay for about £45.

    Thanks for any feedback.

Many thanks for the links, they are really useful. Hope to get my wool washed tomorrow.

I posted a while ago when the fantastic scarecrow was posted because I had one when I was little - I couldn't find Sam but I did find this guy (he needs a wash but apart from that he's over 20 years old! The work that went into it is amazing http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff407/SneezyC/IMAG0250.jpg

I know it's not knitting, but I've just made this case to hold my interchangeable needles.
