What a lovely poncho cuddles, reminds me of one my granny knitted for me whe I was young.

Love the socks Orkney, nearly done mine too...just need to graft the toe, but DS2 had a bit of a panic, so had to sort him out. Determined to sew the toe up tonight so I can wear them tomorrow :j

Will post piccies later in the week.....promise!

So I have been ill (again) but here is the first dent in my aim to finish a few WIP's in Feb. Size 11 socks for DH, knitted on a 2.25mm needle. Pattern on leg only so sole was mindless knitting really, even if it was a lot of mindless knitting.

Hope to make a stab at a pair for me now.....one done a while back and one to go. Much smaller than socks for DH lol! Still he has 3 pairs now, and I am getting used to knitting bigger socks for him! I am a UK 5, so much quicker!
Hope all are well and sorry I have been absent for a bit.....x
Hi Orkney Star - hope you`re better. When do you later you sock needle size. I tend to use 2.5 - do you find 2.25 makes it lookfiner/neater? Love the socks by the way!

I presume you meant to type 'alter' ? TBH I tend to use the same needle size throughout. When I started socks I often used 2.75mm but I find now that I really get a nicer neater sock if I use a 2.25mm needle, or sometimes a 2.5mm needle for lacier things. I have not got any 2mm circulars but I think I might get some, to see if that is better. When I compare older socks knitted in 2.75mm and newer in 2.25mm I prefer the definition on the newer (though this might be in part due to me getting neater, not sure as have knitted for years).

Hi- you`re right re` alter`. Thanks for the explanation tho I would struggle with using circulars . Do intend to put them on my `to do` list. Currently using the Knit pro needles which I like the feel of.

How do you manage when you divide the heel using circulars? Or do you use other needles at the same time and then return to using the circulars exclusively?

I just stick the amount of stitches I want on the the working needle (by knitting them there (or shifting) and stick the others at the back on the loop. I then use the loose needle to knit with. Think of it as one needle of the circular being the dpns you would have your heel stitches on, the loop section being the dpns you would normally rest the non-knitted stitches on and the 'spare' needle on the circular being the dpn you would knit with. The two needles on the circular take turns to knit or hold just like the dpns do, while the loop/spare dpns just wait to be knitted when you go back to 'in the round'.
At the time of picking up gusset heels it can be quite tricky if you use a shorter cable, I have done it with a 60cm one but much prefer a 100cm cable as more room (don't have an 80cm one). Lots of patterns are written for one circular so if you use one of those, next time you are following a pattern for dpn's it becomes clearer where to adjust.
Ok, this is very waffly, but how I explained it in my head lol!
