    hello
i want to take up knitting i no the basics does anyone no where do i startt regarding something easy to start with and are there any free and easy to knit sites to get kn itting patterns

    many thanx

Ravelry.com has lots of free patterns and help- free to join, so that might be a useful thing to do.
My other suggestion would be your local library and see if they have any basic knitting DVD's or books, also youtube (eg search for casting on or knit stitch etc). 'Knitting for Dummies' may also be helpful ?
Perhaps a simple scarf or even just some squares which you can sew together as a blanket.

Good advice Orkney :) Also Michelle don't forget Y*uTube. Hundreds of tutorials on there for beginners along with step by step projects.

https://www.ravelry.com is excellent for free knitting patterns. You can search for patterns on a multitude of different parameters e.g. how advanced you are, whether you want the pattern to be free or paid for, how much yarn, who the project is for etc etc. The forums are really friendly and helpful too - so if you are stuck, you can always get a quick answer.

On a different tangent - my 2.5 mm circs turned up in the post today so I'm looking forward to knitting some more socks. I'm thinking I might go for a pattern this time, rather than just a bog standard ribbed sock :)

Sorry for serial posting, but just wanted to post a pic of my (finally) finished Green Lindsay socks.
They yarn is dark green- varying shades with a small amount of brown through it. I really like them, and they used only about half a 100g ball for the pair.

Was going to move on to DS's jumper that has been hibernating for ages but DS decided he didn't really like it, and as I was not really enjoying the knitting we agreed to frog it! Now knitting a cardi for me, which I started the ribbing and a little more of a while back.......

    Hi everyone

Orkneystar you are so right about SSS, cos I have some more sock wool and I nearly started it just to see how the wool would knit up:rotfl:I resisted but the urge was there

I am well into my second sock, I cant describe how happy this sock making is making me feel - such a simple soul I must be.

I am on holiday from work this week so I have dedicated it to crafty things (with a bit of HW thrown in) so far I have made my sock, cut a blouse out that I will start in a couple of days and started Xstitching the front of a new peg bag which is a project I have had on the back burner since last summer and lastly I have done a bit of crocheting which is also new to me. Theres only me here so I suppose Im lucky in that I dont have to get dinner ready at particular time etc although one of my daughters lives local and is in and out alot with DGD. Anyway back to crafty things:)

Think I'll add a cord at the neck with pom poms as it looks a bit like lacy bloomers at the mo
