I have been lurking around this thread ever since I found it and love the stuff in the photos. You are so talented (and busy!).
I have recently restarted knitting and my latest project uses sock yarn. I think that the smaller needles may have something to do with the problem I want to ask about............I have started getting sciatic type pains down my right arm and in my shoulder/neck. Bad enough to wake me up at night. Anyone any ideas/advice? Maybe it's not related to the knitting at all, but the timing made me think it was.
I would be so grateful if anyone can spare the time to help.

Knitting with smaller needles can be painful. Have you tried changing the way you hold them, or maybe even supporting your arms with a cushion or something ? Are you using straight needles ? If so you could switch to a circular (still knitting back and forth) but the weight of the item can rest on the cable instead of being on the needles- this is gentler on the wrists. Only other suggestion would be take regular breaks, and do some warm up exercises! I have been knitting loads of socks on 2.25mm needles and have recently switched to a cardi on bigger needles- wrists much happier!

Also wondering what kind of needles you are using. I find metal DPNs slippy and heavy so I tense when using them. Switched to bamboo needles, which are much more grippy and lighter to hold - voila!

A friend of mine runs a charity that rehomes stray cats and kittens and does a really fantastic job.

We all fundraise for her, and knit blankets for the cats. These not only keep them warm and cosy, but give them something familiar to take with them when they are rehomed.

They are currently in a competition run by an animal insurance company, and could win £5000, which would make a huge difference to them, and pay lots of vets bills.

If you have a Facebook account, please could you take a moment to log on, allow the app, and vote for Haworth Cat Rescue?
Your vote could make a big difference to some cats and kittens.

    Thank you.

  • Cuddles - I voted too :)

Here's last night's project. It's knitted in kidsilk creation. The yarn was a Christmas pressie and has been calling me ever since. It's light as a whisper and so, so soft. Of course today it's far too warm to wear it!!!!!!!

I don't know if anyone else has seen this (done a search can't find it on MSE), but Woman's Weekly have a code for 20% off at Deramores - WWRO12 (not sure if that is the letter O or zero it's not clear in the text).

Unfortunately the discount doesn't apply to clearance stock or any other promotion or offer, still, if you were thinking of buying something anyway...

Be quick if you're tempted as it's only until 29th February 2012.

    I've just finished him. :j
Many years ago I met a fellow caravanner on a campsite and she had knitted the whole scarecrow family and had them all displayed in the front window of her van.
I loved them, especially Sam, and vowed I'd make him one day. I bought the Jean Greenhowe pattern book off fleabay about 18 months ago and finally got around to knitting him! He's supposed to have a robin perched on his right arm, but I'm not happy with the way the robin looks so I've left him off.
Maybe I'll get round to knitting some more Scarecrow family members one day. :)
