  • Thanks everyone! I decided on a hat, just posted it on Ravelry if anyone wants to see (same name on there) I've been eyeing up some cabled booties that I might attempt this afternoon.

I am a dreadful knitter, crochet is more my thing, but everyone seems to be making lots and lots of socks and I was feeling left out. There was a tutorial mentioned a couple of pages ago when I asked for sock advice so I think I will follow that. I am very nervous as I think this might be hideously hard

I too have sock envy - I know the ones I've made are more like boot or slouch socks so not 'proper' socks IYKWIM? I've made a note of Silver's sock class too, maybe we can start them together & do a bit of virtual handholding.....I know I said I'd already got 3 things on the go, but what the heck

Ooh, My lace sucks but socks I can do!!

DON'T read too far ahead, just do your bit. You will be surprised how the heel magically happens when you just follow it one step at a time. Use wooden needles if you keep dropping your DPNs, they are "stickier".

Errr, start with a plain pattern, instead of being like me and being stuck on lace.

Thanks Adela31 - I will deffo give it a go, I am very stubborn so in the case of knitting, that's in my favour:rotfl:Only trouble is I don't think I have DPNs - only fancy Knitpro circulars. When I bought all the Knitpro, I didn't get the set of DPNs as I didn't think I would get the use out of them - unless of course I did make loads of socks. And whilst I'm on the subject - rant alert - why do knitting needle sets not now include the 3.25 or size 10 needles? Back in the day, when I was doing a lot of knitting, most patterns were always the rib in 10s (3.25), the body in 8s (4). All the sets - Cath Kidston & now Knitpro - I've bought recently haven't included a set of 3.25s:mad: It was only because I realised this from the Cath Kidston set that I bothered to check the (very expensive) Knitpro set - & lo & behold, they didn't include them either. So I bought an additional seperate set of 3.25s - and when the Knitpros came in their fancy case, they even had a space for the 3.25s, but they weren't included  Ok rant over LOL

Ok,sock knitting on circulars, are they the interchangable knitpro ones?

Option 1: get a really short cable for your circular, so you knit your sock in the round

Option 2: Magic Loop method (its all oobie Joobie to me, google is your friend!)

Option 3: Knitting with two circular needles. (Instructions were in my Vogue sock knitting book, but that also goes under oobie joobie, cus I use dpns)

I have knit pro dpns, they are wonderful for socks, as I ALWAYS lose my metal ones (not the brightest here)
