Venturing into colourwork in the aim to really get into it and enjoy it this time....first of my pair of Butterfly socks:

The next one will be fraternal, i.e. colours reversed. Certainly not perfect if you look too close, but wearable certainly!

Thanks, I have admired many colourwork socks from others and want to get a bit more proficient in it!;)

    Lovely sock Orkney, really pretty!

Had a go at knitting a pico cuff, using the provisional (invisible) cast-on method in the Sock Innovation book. Was a bit tricky, but got there in the end!! Now I plan on having a go at the Cauchy socks...realtively simple (I think!), and love the picot cuff!! I did start to read through all the designing bit...think I will look at it again when I want to design my own socks in the future. In the meantime I want to get going with knitting some of the socks...for me for a change! :D

Have a good day everyone x

Is your blanket knit in the round or straight across?

If it's in the round (ie what you're producing is a tube) you'll want a circular needle a bit shorter than the circumference of the tube. If it's straight but you want to use a circ anyway, choose one a bit longer than the width of the fabric.

    Hope that helps.

That's great thanks, it's a flat blanket done on a circular needle just because there's so many stitches.
It's about 88cm wide so I suppose my only choice is 100cm length as 80cm may just be too short?

Thought I would just add the link - it's this blanket (although I have DK yarn in bits and bobs and am having some difficulty believing that I should be knitting it on a 6mm circular needle!) I'll just have to give it a try.

I had a set of knitpro circulars as a pressie a while back and can't recommend them too highly. As mumof2 says, they are very smooth - in fact the smoothest I've ever used - and the cord is very flexible so easy to use. Drawbacks? Don't let anyone sit on them! The ends snap - suppose any wooden needle would - but they are very expensive to replace. Luckily dh is a good crafter himself and (feeling very guilty)he was able to shorten one pair of ends and refit the screws.

Oh - forgot to say that a cord with the ends on makes a good stitch holder.

No, I've no commercial interest - just a very satisfied customer.

    Happy clicking!!

Thanks for all the info on Knitpro- I'm definitely going to treat myself to some with the money from the outlaws. However, whilst I've bbeen deliberating, they have sold out of the special set " 60 pounds in the sale:mad: Hopefully I'll find it for less than 80 pounds somewhere!! If I can I may get another set of either sock needles or straight pins, not sure what would be most useful??

Which set are you looking to buy? The deluxe one?

I'm deliberating between the metal or wood interchangeable set and can't decide, currently being swayed by the wood ones as they are pretty...

Hi Sashanut, i love the metal knitpro sock needles and the metal circs which i use for large items. I don't knit as much as i like but find these needles have made it so much easier, especially socks as i use 5 dpn's to knit with as i find it doesn't cause ladders. I bought all mine off fleabay.
I am in West Yorkshire and i too have never visited the mills on my doorstep. Please can i ask which one you visited. Thankyou
