It is using a set of four needles isn't it? Not done that before. Are hand knitted socks more special than shop ones?

There are lots of patterns for two needle socks on ravelry
    http://www.ravelry.
    com/patterns/library/two-needle-socks-2
or you can use one or two circular needles
As someone else said socks are a bit addictive :)

yes, you need a set of dpns (double pointed needles) which you can get for under a fiver. I got a nice set of bamboo ones which feel nice and have been very good. The thing about sock knitting is..it can go either way, either you become addicted to it (highly portable hobby, the thrill of seeing the sock wool pattern materialise) or you suffer from 2nd sock syndrome where you cant bear to do another one!

    go for it!

You can also knit them on circular needles (one or two) and you can knit two at a time ;).
Google 'silvers sock class' and the links to knitting on dpns/knitting on circular needles and knitting two at a time should come up.

    Hello all

Would anyone have any patterns/ links to patterns for easy baby boy's cardigans or jumpers? I have only just learnt how to knit and my baby is due in 12 weeks and would really like to make some cardigans or jumpers for him.

    Many Thanks

    Rachel

    Hi Rachel

I'd suggest this version of the famous Five Hour Baby Sweater. It's free, quick, fairly straightforward and will see him through about a year of growth. (I made the larger sized one for a colleague's baby daughter who was born in mid-summer. She wore it through the next 3 winters.) Any aran-weight yarn is suitable. Regarding the needle sizes, "size 8" is American for 5mm, "size 10" are 6mm.

Also, since you're a fairly new knitter, it's probable your personal knitting tension/gauge hasn't settled down yet. This pattern is quite forgiving.

Hi Florenceem - I had never been to one either, despite living in the 'heavy woollen' area. I've lived here now for 20+ years but in my defence I only really started knitting again last year. In fact, when I lived in East Anglia, the ladies where I worked used to come up here specially to visit the mills.

Anyhow, there was lots of choice - too much for me - as I didn't have anything in mind when I went. The first one I went to was cheaper than the second, but the second had more choice!! And the second one was a 'proper' mill shop, with all kinds of wool including rug wool & everything in between.

TBH if you have access to the internet you can get wool as cheap I would say, the only thing about going is that you get to see the wools all together so can compare etc. HTH

Rachel, I second the 5 hour baby sweater, though I did a different version to Pipney Jane - this one. Here's mine which I made with Sirdar Crofter DK.
Oh dear, here we go again.
