  • can anyone help me with an interpretation of a pattern please?

I'm doing a sleeve and doing the increasing 1 stitch at both ends, it asks for the increase to be done on the alt 4th row, does this mean alternate 4th rows or on the 8th row, iyswim?
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)

That's just plain confusing to me - what is the exact wording, please? Also, is the pattern based on a repeat of 4 rows?

Another thought, what is the name of the pattern and the designer/design company? We may be able to find you errata on line or on Ravelry. Or there may be a discussion on Ravelry which clarifies the increases.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm not going mad.
I was beginning to wonder about the mistake I found in the knitting pattern, but have had this reply from King Cole...

Thank you for bringing to our attention the fact that there is an error on right side of the neck of the Boy’s Sweater. This leaflet has been in circulation for over 2 years and nobody has brought it to our attention before. As it is written the cast off stitches and those left on a thread are at the outer edge of the garment as you say.
The wording for the instructions should just be as follows:
With right side facing rejoin yarn at neck edge of remaining 29 stitches and continue as follows.
Cast on 3 sts, P1, K1, P1 across these 3 sts then patt to end as set (32 sts)
Keeping patt correct as set, continue on these 32 sts only until armhole is 12 rows shorter than Back to shoulders.
Next Row: Cast off 3 sts in patt, patt next 3 and slip these 4 sts onto a thread, then patt to end.
It shouldn’t say 12 rows shorter than Back to shoulders, ending with a right side row. (This would be an odd number of rows to the shoulders). I shall inform the designer of the error.

King Cole apologises for the error and the frustration it has caused you. When the pattern is reprinted the error will be corrected.
    Regards

Two years and nobody noticed

I have been using up small amounts of yarn again

:)spider, love the jumper, your DH must have been pleased

and, oops, i've forgotten your name in the time i've taken to start writing this post. mavisangelica i think? (sorry:o), where did you get the pattern for the neck warmer, I think I would like to do one. is it on circular needles?

well, i finished my fingerless mittens and i'm mightily chuffed with my little self, they are the only things i have ever knitted that are fit for purpose:rotfl:.

I was given an amazing present yesterday, my nanna stopped knitting a few years ago and when my mum told her i had taken it up she sent me all her old needles, some of them belonged to my great nanna and I remember her trying to teach me how to knit when i was very small on a very distinctive pair of bright green needles, which were in the bag. they are very valuable in sentimental terms and i am so pleased to have them:j.

so now i am on the lookout for my next project, still going for simple, quickish to knit things with the aim of geting half as good as some of you ladies on here at some point before I'm 105...;)! (that gives me 74 yrs to practice:p)

I just made it up. But this is how I did it. It is knitted on circular needles. (size 4mm)

I was a bit worried that it might not fit over hubby's head so measured round his head first! Then I did a quick tension test - just casted on 20 stitches and did a few rows and measured. Then worked out from the measurement of hubby's head how many stitches.

So for mine I cast on 128 stitches then did 25 rows black, 20 rows white, 25 black, 20 white, 25 black. cast off. It is knit all in rib (k1,p1)

A quick tip though from a beginner of circular needles. I bought 100cm length needle and they were too long and it was fiddly moving the stitches round. So if you are going out and buying new needles probably go for 50 or 60 cm. I have just ordered some 60cm from ebay to knit another one.
