I made those a couple of years back, added a crochet flower too, they were pretty cool. Easy to make but look really nice.

Oh I didn't think of that. I can add a flower to the ones I made for myself, different pattern and lovely multicoloured yarn. Cheers orkney :D

Thank you so much for that dizzy lizzie, you know how it is with Ravelry, you go on to look for one thing and 2 hours later you're off in another world;)
Have saved that one and will have a go, maybe over the weekend.

Today I've started a pair of 'toast' long ones for me, I have one pair but really wanted them in a soft black. Found some wool while on holiday (King Cole Haze, just right) but being black - and thin! - can only do it in a good light - and they have that pesky thumbhole!

Also finished off a shopping bag (sewing) and managed to do the handles inside-out. These are the kind of things that convinced me years ago that I couldn't knit or sew:( I wasn't about to unpick the whole bag, so I did a cable stitch all the way up the handles' seams so they didn't show :)

Aw you sound just like me Diflower :) I'm not by nature a knitter and I can't use a sewing machine. Paid £180 for a Toyota sewing machine years ago but aside from some reeeeallly simple curtains for when we had a camper I didn't use it. And I couldn't work out what all the other dials were for. Sold it on flea bay for £30!!!! Oh how I wish I'd kept it now though :doh:The more we do though the better at it we'll get :D

    Wanders in...

I have a baby to knit for - NDN's daughter and her hubby are expecting a boy in January so I sent for a pattern from prima (From the Ninth little sublime Hand knit book) and am just wondering if there are any good on line wool retailers as I'm planning on knitting it in the actual wool recommended (probably a first). Then I have another (no gender yet) baby due in May to knit for. And DD seems to think I can knit something for her ... (I never finished the jumper I was kntiing for her brother when I was PG with her and she's 16 in January!) so i would appreciate your help ladies.

Hello Valli  long time no chat! I am only flying occasionally now as have become obsessed by knitting and am sewing again too now.
I'm sure the ladies on here will be able to advise you- I like to buy my wool in shops so I can feel it but I know lots of people on here buy online.
    Happy knitting :D

sssh miss! Don't want anyone thinking I'm a nutter;)

I've had a google and found a couple of places...just wanted a personal recommendation really.

the job/busy life are not conducive to knitting but a baby cardi is, i feel, a do-able project. I'm after knitting this (no complex patterns;))

I use Black Sheep regularly, great prices and a speedy delivery service.

I am knitting up numerous scarves using James Brett Star Lites yarn atm, look really good for the festive season, should sell well at the craft fairs I am doing. Might get some more in the next week :)

Have a good knitty weekend everyone x

    help!

I have read the pattern (link to pic up there^) and for the border (presumably neck/shawl part) I have to pick up stitches arounfdthe neck with either circular needles or straight but it's knitted in rows - so far so good, and it's all knit stitches (so far so good) but I knit to the end of the row and wrap.

Never come across this - does it mean I wrap a loop around the needle so when I get back to it (next row) I knit it?

It sounds like you will be doing 'short row shaping' AKA 'wrap and turn'. Try searching for those phrases on YouTube or Google.

The wrap goes around a stitch not the needle. It's hard to explain in words but there are videos online that will show you what to do.

i realise now that on the paper band around a ball it has a recommended size of needle but on the balls i have bought recently they have a number next to a picture of a ball of wool. does this indicate in some way what type of wool you should use, like number 3 means dK ooh how simple That would make my life i am terrible at matching wool with pattern. at present am going through my ever growing stash and trying to find free knitting patterns that i can up with. or is there some simple chart somewhere that i dont know about?

It may be the yarn weight classification system number. This link explains it:

This system is a US thing so not all yarns will have that information on the band.

Just made this for mum's birthday (she said she did want a hat or beret, wasn't sure if she had enough- did cream so it would match anything!), started last night and finished this afternoon. Just cast on another pair of socks for DH, will do in tandem with my socks and some other things!
