    Those are gorgeous and ideal as we've just had two babies born into the family. Could someone translate the wool needed into something I'd understand?

    Love the socks and the toys and the boots!

    I am still battling on with MIL's shawl. About 20 rows to go I reckon. Then I'm going to try picot cast off for the first time.

    Oh, and there are several little boots in progress. I just love the pattern, and can't resist making them in any scraps I find.

    Hello everyone

    I am kind of new to knitting. My nanna taught me the basics back when I was about 10 and I haven't knitted since (getting on for 21 years ago now!).

    This week, I decided to knit a baby hat for my impending arrival - so far so good (couple of dropped stitches I reckon, but it is my first attempt! :D). Anyway, I have just finished a few rows of 1x1. The pattern says I end this section with a "ws". Everything I've read says that "ws" is after a purl row - clearly I haven't just done a purl row.

    So, if I hold my knitting in my left hand ready to start my next row, if the "rs" is facing me, does that mean I ended on "ws"? (I.e. do I chnage my knitting pattern now or do I do another row?)

    Sorry for the simple question - I'm in awe of some of the makes on here. Mine will look like a dog's dinner in comparison, but I'll be proud as I made it for my babba!

    Thank you

    xDx

    if you have just finished the rib then the nest row would be a knit row if your doing knit a row purl a row

    Thanks. My rib section was just 2cm worth - so no strict instructions of how many rows to do. My outside of the hat is facing me now so I presume I finished the rib on the ws?

    (Sorry - probably being really dumb)

    that right
    WS =wrong side
    RS = right side

    youll knit the next row then purl so the outside of you hat will have little 'v' shaped stitches the inside will have little bumps (called purls)

    love the little ugg boots

    Lidl's website is showing sewing/knitting/crochet supplies this Thursday.

    hooks, needles (inc cable, circs, dpns & straights) £1.49

    They have pom-pom yarn or 'normal' yarn is chunky with recommended needle size of 6-7mm.

    Check your local store online as specials aren't the same all over the country.

    cuddles123 those boots look fab! I love making them as they come out so neat and they are lovely and warm, I did consider doing a row of holes under the cuff and threading a ribbon through to tie them on (so you couldn't see the ribbon and spoil the look. Must try it with the next pair.

    I bought some King Cole riot yarn yesterday to do the neck warmers that Cuddles showed last week. It is 30% wool and to me looks a lot like Noro but much cheaper. I also picked up 2 balls of Sirdar click dk in a denimy blue to make DGS a hat for winter and it was only 2.00 for the 2 balls. I have to travel a couple of miles to the wool shop but its a good shop and I often pick up a bargain.
