Thank you Cuddles, that's really nice of you.
Your knitting looks fab, very professional. Sadly mine is nowhere near as good so I'm attempting this baby blanket that has lots of deliberate holes...hopefully my mistakes will blend in lol.

have had a look but cant find any eyelash patterns, am i being a bit dim today?0 -
Maganan,
Looks like another sock knitter in the making!
Any old wool round the house is good for practising, till you get the mechanics of it. I made four odd ones and ironed out little glitches till I was happy. DIL wears the odd ones as house socks.
I use 4 ply, as all the socks I knit are for the size 14 feet belonging to youngest son. He doesn't need any extra bulk in his shoes. Lots of people do them in DK. Depends what kind of look you want I suppose, and how long you're prepared to take in the knitting!
Sock wool is usually a hard-wearing mix. The one I am using at the moment is 70% wool/23% polyamid/7% polyester. They all vary a bit, including the price. Good luck with EBay.0 -

No there aren't many are there, Except a thong for a toy monkey. The mind boggles.
Another way would be to go into the yarn tab, type eyelash into the search box. As well as all the different types of eyelash they have in the database, by the side it will show projects people have made. If you find one you like, you can see if the pattern is suitable for you.0 -
Welcome, Maccanut!
Why not treat yourself to some not-too-expensive sock wool, look on ravelry for a pattern for some plainish socks and launch in. There are plenty of us on here only to pleased to help. Orkney Star is our sock queen and I'm sure she will be ale to offer you some valuable advice!
Happy clicking
Sue

Does your yarn have a guage? If so, you could substitute any pattern using that guage of yarn.Jack of all trades ... Master of none

More lovely stuff posted since my last visit.
Have any of you got a knitting board?0 -
Do you mean a board to block work on?
I use jigsaw type pieces with numbers on for kids. ELC usually have them. Or I got mine in TKMaxx. The centre number bits are fitted in and drop out sometimes, but it's not a major problem. Some people say they have had trouble with colour coming off, but I don't use them for steam blocking.0 -

Ourrac - when anyone starts off knitting they make mistakes - stitches are dropped, split, not completed properly; tension is variable; holes mysteriously appear; there are either too many or too few stitches on the needle.:eek::eek:We've all been there!!
The important thing is to keep knitting. Try to complete a few rows each day. Keep your early efforts so that you can see your progress and you'll soon find that you are more happy with the look of your work. Before you know it your knitting will look as good as anyone else's. Mind you, if you are anything like me, you will always see more imperfections in your work!!
Is there anyone you know who can help you if you have problems? It's so much easier if you have a friend, neighbour etc you can ask who can show you what's wrong and how to put it right.
Don't lurk, join in. We should love to know how you are getting on.
