First finished cherry red B and B sock, putting it's mate on hold to do a baby cardi I promised someone.
B and B sock is such an easy pattern- I made a wee blip on the toe but only noticeable if I point it out, and seeing as the toe will be in my shoes I won't be doing that lol!
Hope everyone is ok and welcome all newbies!

Ourrac - when anyone starts off knitting they make mistakes - stitches are dropped, split, not completed properly; tension is variable; holes mysteriously appear; there are either too many or too few stitches on the needle. We've all been there!!
The important thing is to keep knitting. Try to complete a few rows each day. Keep your early efforts so that you can see your progress and you'll soon find that you are more happy with the look of your work. Before you know it your knitting will look as good as anyone else's. Mind you, if you are anything like me, you will always see more imperfections in your work!!
Is there anyone you know who can help you if you have problems? It's so much easier if you have a friend, neighbour etc you can ask who can show you what's wrong and how to put it right.
Don't lurk, join in. We should love to know how you are getting on.
Thanks so much Sue.
I don't really know anyone who knits as I have only recently moved from Manchester to Kettering so I am extra grateful for the kindness of you lovelies who have taken the time to offer help. Thank you.
I have knitted a few cardies, bonnets and mittens etc but as I am completely self taught I just do my best and sort of make it up if I'm not sure !
Now I've started again after so many years I seem to have forgotten most of what I knew so it's a bit like starting again. I've begun quite a few projects and got so far then got stuck so had to leave them half done. The only thing I've managed to finish is a mouse lol

Hello,
I recently decided to take up knitting and wondered where I could get the materials from affordably in london?
Please can someone help me out.
Thanks:o0 -
I've only been to two, on visits to my son. Loop in Islington - very expensive. A big one in the main street in Stoke Newington - reasonable. What part are you in?0
-
Epping but I can get to Stoke Newington0

Gosh you've lost me now! My knowlege of London is limited to places my son has lived. Currently the East End.
As far as I can see, a lot of the wool shops In London are ott regards prices, in line with the recent revival in arts and crafts. But having so many districts which are each like little villages I'm sure there must be plenty more scattered about. John Lewis has a lovely wool dept., but again, not cheap. Have you thought about looking up local clubs in the library and see if there's a knitting group? They would help you along and certainly have the low-down on the best wool shops.
You could also join Ravelry online, it's free. Loads of free patterns and resources. If you post on a forum in a group, eg London UK Ravellers, I'm sure you will get answers from loads of people who live in London. f you do not want to get involved, let me know and I'll post and ask for shops near Epping. Good luck.0 -
You could look in car boot sales and charity shops. Sometimes there are bargains to be had!0
