This is the one I made. I used 2 buttons so that it's easier to get on and off, but the pattern says one.
This is the pattern
Cable Mug Cosy
4mm needles
DK yarn
Cable needle
Button(s)
C4F Slip next 2 stitches onto cable needle and hold at the front of work.
Knit 2 then knit 2 from cable needle.
TENSION & SIZE
To fit a mug up to 26cm in circumference.
21 stitches and 16 rows to 10cm.
Cast on 56 stitches
ROW 1 (RS) *P6, K4, rep from * to last 6 sts, P6
ROW 2 *K6, P4, rep from * to last 6 sts, K6
ROW 3 *P6, K4, rep from * to last 6sts, P6
ROW 4 *K6, P4, rep from * to last 6 sts, K6
ROW 5 *P6, C4F, rep from *to last 6 sts, P6
ROW 6 *K6, P4, rep from* to last 6 sts, K6
These 6 rows form the pattern.
Repeat until required length is reached.
Cast off.
MAKING UP
Stitch the edges together below where the mug handle will be. Sew a button at the top edge, and make a loop from your yarn to use as a button fastener.
(I used 2 buttons as it’s easier to get on and off)Jack of all trades ... Master of none

I really need some suggestions - on an impulse last week I bought a handknitted jumper in a charity shop reduced to 50p - I couldn't resist it as it was a lovely baby blue yarn (probably acrylic) with slightly shiny thread running through it- something like THIS . The jumper (a rather ghastly creation I'm afraid) was quite a large ladies' short sleeved jumper and has yielded me just over 350gms - after a lot of mind numbing unpicking, washing and untangling!
I think it may be 4 ply - I haven't tried the wraps per inch test yet - got to find the magazine article giving me the info! Of course because it's not wool I haven't managed to get all the crinkles out (plus it has some natural crinkles anyway).
Thing is - what to knit with it? There are no babies in my family and none likely to be for a few years- what else could I do with it? it doesn't really suit home furnishings - suppose I could always sell it on Fleebay!0 -
Mrs Money - What about some Leg warmers? Sounds like a bargain to me! Well done. : )0

I may be a little old for legwarmers (at least outside the house!) - although the warmth aspect of the idea does certainly appeal!0

Mrs Money, I would be tempted to make some cosy bed socks. Or combine it (doubled up if necessary) with something really bright for a stripey hat and scarf. Or it would be nice made into a teddy like this one - I've made him and he's gorgeous and the thickness of the yarn doesn't matter, if it's 4 ply he'll just end up a bit smaller!Oh dear, here we go again.0

I like knitting in theory, but in reality, I get bored of it really easily, as it take sooooooo loooonnnngggg to finish.
I want to make some hats for Xmas gifts.
So, I got my pattern and it had a bit of lacing around the bottom. I did a practice run of the lacing, but didn't like the look of it, so left it out.
Started knitting on circular kneedles and it started to curl. Had a read up on line and it turns out, if you knit in the round, it does do that!!!!!
So I've had to start again..... (luckily, hadn't got too far!!!!)
Fingers crossed it turns out okay.0 -
cuddles123 Wow your grandson's hat is incredible! and love the buttons on your mug cosy
Okneystar Your cape looks brilliant
Susan946 Gorgeous makes - I love the bag
MrsMoney - do you have enough to knit a lightweight lacy summer cardigan for yourself from it?
Still knitting my gloves - I got too engrossed in the tv and mucked up the pattern so I'll need to unpick a bit0 -

It will curl if you're knitting in stocking-stitch - it doesn't have anything to do with whether you're knitting in the round or knitting flat.
You can start with an edging in rib or moss stitch or garter stitch - that will avoid the curling-up problem.0 -

Thanks for that - yes he's cute and I suppose I could make one or two to sell as well - although I don't know how people would like the idea of the "upcycling" aspect of the creation! Perhaps it may appeal to some people though. Being frugal, I like to use up and re-use old beads, yarn, fabric, ribbon, buttons - it's criminal that they may end up in landfill otherwise.0 -

Nobody is too old for leg warmers! I wouldnt wear them showing outside either! But id definately wear them at home to be all snuggly and warmOr even to wear under high boots outside to keep warm.
