hi all, i have just brought a set of bamboo knitting needles off ebay and they have arrived today, and started knitting with them straight away,, but cant get the hang of them and realised cos they where too slippy. any advice? by hubby has some very very fine flatting paper (like sand paper) that would take the sheen off them. would that work? i have got two pairs of wooden knitting needles and i use them fine cos they have a grain to them that you can feel. (if that makes sense) what does everyone think?

Here's the photo I rpomised of the jacket I made for my daughter's friend's baby - due next month. The pattern is from Garn Studios and is available free on the internet here.I used Snuggly 4ply. It took quite a long time to knit as it is on 2 1/2 needles. The jacket is knitted in one piece - so only the sleeve seams to stitch up at the end - and the shaping is done using short rows.

Just wondering if anyone can help please?

Want to knit a Mug Cosy for my nephew as part of his birthday pressie in his team colours. Would you believe they are black and orange!
The one colour of wool I don't have is orange.

Can't find any locally at all so have been looking online. I can buy 50g (I need about 25g) but the postage is ridiculous!
I have also looked in Charity Shops, but no joy.
Can anyone suggest anywhere with reasonable postage please? Some are charging £2.45!

    Lovely pics everyone! :T

Cuddles, that's a lovely pattern for the mug cosy and the buttons are just so cute. I was thinking of making one but am afraid I'd ruin by getting tea all over it or ending up with a mouthful of wool! Have you put them to the test yet?
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I did the mug cosy with a straight cable needle.
The cowl is knitted on big needles and has large cables, so I used a bent cable needle otherwise the loops slipped off the needle.

I've looked at how to do cable without a needle, but never tried it. I really thought cables would be hard - and I'm sure some are, but the basic ones are OK. I bought a magazine with a booklet about cables and it came with 2 free cable needles -Issue 55 of Knit Today. Its still available and I can recommend it.

Just got the magazine last night cuddles, will give the cabling a try :)
