Susan that is a very striking bag. I love the contrast of colours and the flower is amazing. Well done
I've just had to undo my knitting. Watched a youtube tutorial on holding the yarn in your left hand whilst knitting and purling only because my right arm tends to ache with keep having to lift it slightly to wrap round the needle, anyhow it was tricky but I was doing it all be it slowly and realised I'd dropped a stitch. Had only done about 5 rows but there was 44 stitches on my needle. Just got cross and unravelled it! Think I might stick to the normal way, but had enough for now

I'm going to be a Granny again, you would not believe how good this news is
Our oldest grand daughter is 22, so I have long lost all the knitting patterns for baby stuff and am starting again with a cutie- if basic- cardigan.
The pattern is sized from 12 up to 20, so I dived in at size 16. It seems to be enormous! and yes the tension is right, so could anyone tell
me which would be the right size to knit for a newborn?
This baby is not due until the end of august---gender not known-- so I have plenty of time to practice!0 -
My youngest daughter was 6lb 14 and wore the 14 and 16 inch cardigans from birth. I made the cardies with ribbed cuffs on the size 16's so they could be folded up if needed.. I had teeny tiny prem babies who wore the size 14 inch ones.
I'd stay with the 16" ones.. see what it is like when finished and if it looks big you have plenty of time to get a couple of dozen other ones in.. the tiny sizes I was knitting 3 cardies a week..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Thank you for that Pigpen. Both my babies were great lusty infants (8lb 10 and 8lb 14) so right now I am having difficulty visuallising
looking after a prem baby AND managing to knit cardigans at the rate of 3 a week !!!!!0 -
Prem babies sleep and sleep and sleep... or mine did.. they need to sleep to grow.. they fed every 1.5-2 hours so I had loads of time.. between school runs meal times and general housey mania
Back of baby's first 'summer cardy' half done.. we are up to size 20" for her (about 9-12 months) Pattern is a bit dull but it looks pretty it just has bobbles and I hate making bobbles .. I've done pics of the last one I finished but not uploaded yet..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Here's the photo I rpomised of the jacket I made for my daughter's friend's baby - due next month. The pattern is from Garn Studios and is available free on the internet here.I used Snuggly 4ply. It took quite a long time to knit as it is on 2 1/2 needles. The jacket is knitted in one piece - so only the sleeve seams to stitch up at the end - and the shaping is done using short rows.

Love that jacket Sue - just looked at the pattern link and it says that you need double pointed needles - I've not really used these before - is it difficult (I tried once on some wristwarmers - it was chaotic to say the least and I gave up!)0

I often knit back and forth on a circular needle but for this I just used straight needles. I can't honestly see why you would need a circular needle for the jacket but I think the hat mioght be knitted in the round. I haven't got the pattern to hand to check that but I must have a look and see whether that's the case
Sue
Edit - just founf the pattern. It's the socks that need the double pointed needles!! The hat is knitted back and forth so would only need straight needles!0
