  • Thank you so much for all your advice about learning to knit I have now got hold of the two books recommended from the library and am so proud that I've managed to knit 5 rows of knitting.

I'm going to keep practising and am looking forward to the day when I can do patterns and change colours too.

    Thankyou again

Hi Scatlettsmum, well done! Its very addicitive! You'll be doing all sorts by the time you know it. Im still only a beginner myself, but was very suited with myself that I made a baby hat for my neice, and a part made cardigan for her.....think i got carried away thinking I could make anything! Will come back to the Cardigan someday soon, but will be too small for baby then! Made myself a scarf though recently. I think little projects that you can finish quickly will give you the confidence and practice. Hope to see some of your pics soon : )

Just smiling at you signature Sue - my mum and sister are also obsessed by tortoises - mum and dad have 3 (1 owned for 47 years , 1 adopted and 1 permanently fostered from RSPCA) and my sister has 7

Whereabouts are you in Lincolnshire? - am a yellowbelly myself :p

I think the turtles and tortoises were either my mid life crisis or second childhood:rotfl:I married a yellow belly and live in the craft capital of Lincolnshire = Alford.

    Lovely pics everyone! :T

Cuddles, that's a lovely pattern for the mug cosy and the buttons are just so cute. I was thinking of making one but am afraid I'd ruin by getting tea all over it or ending up with a mouthful of wool! Have you put them to the test yet?

I haven't actually tried it, but think that the blue one may be slightly too large. The green one has knitted up smaller (I had to do extra length too) so may be more practical.
May make the next ones slightly narrower.

BTW the buttons came from The Works only £1 for a selection in 4 colours :j

Susan946 your things are lovely :).
Cuddles the mug warmers are lovely too. I wonder if you could use same design to create sleeve which you could wrap round a knitted face cloth (knit it in cotton) or even for round a bottle (eg wine) or wrist warmers ? Just a thought. Re the bright wool, you might find you have to buy a bigger ball and use the rest up somehow.....e-bay seems to have a few 100g balls!
ScarlettsMum- well done! You will soon be addicted and thinking of little else lol! x
Thanks everyone who liked the shawl. It is nice and warm and comfy, yet will be easy to wash, being a blend of wool/acrylic. A nice easy knit. If you are not keen on the yarn over part you could just do that straight too, but I think it adds something!
Are either of you on ravelry ? I am on it under same name as here!
I feel yuck so off to veg while DJ at nursery and might knit a little.

I use one I got off a charity site called 'Ray of Hope' You start with 3 stitches, inc at the beg of every row ( I inc in the second stitch to give a nice edge) carry on till you have used 100gms of wool then join a second ball of wool dec beg every row till you are back to 3 stitches. I actually use slightly less than 200 gms this leaves me enough to crochet round a shell edge. If you use 4mm needles and dk you get a really nice blanket and it doesnt feel as much like hard work as knitting a square the usual way.:)
