I'm wondering if someone can help me.
I am following Silver's tutorial and have come to the point where I have to start the heel.
It says:-
On your next needle, (working yarn coming from last stictch of last need), you need 24 stitches. This is needle 1.
* Keep the working yarn before the first stitch on needle 1.
On your other two needles, you need 12 stitches.
I'm reading that as the last stitch knitted becomes stitch 1 of the 24 and so it will in effect be knitted twice before knitting the next stitch.
Have I read that correctly?
Please could a sock expert help me as I would like to try and finish my first sock.

No, I don't think so. She is just explaining how your stitches should be split up. So, starting from the next stitch you would have knit, you'll have 24 stitches on the first needle, then 12 on each of the other two needles. You're about to start working using only the 24 stitches on the first needle. Right now, your working yarn should be coming off the last stitch on the needle *before* the 24-stitch needle. Once you start the 24-stitch needle, obviously the working yarn will be somewhere on it.0 -

Thanks Blueberrypie, that does make sense now you've said it. Hopefully I will get this sock finished now.Did owe £9,951.96

I see that blueberrypie has answered your questions lynseydee...I am in the middle of my second sock for DS2...size 13, so takes a while with 4-ply!!
Started my first sock ever last October, using Silver's tutorial, which helped immensely. Have done 5 pairs now, three following Silver's pattern completely and the other two using a circle pattern for the legs, based on Silver's tutorial, so the same number of stitches, easy to check with Silver when I got stuck/lost!
I plan on having a go at using the circular needle tutorial, with the aim of ultimately knitting two pairs at the same time..then I don't have to spend ages getting them the same length...I hate counting rows over and over again!!
I don't think I have posted a piccie of the circle socks I knitted for myself with some reduced Regia wool...here they are...a-la Orkney Star!! (love the fluffy socks!)
Apologies about all the dog hair...DS2 brushed our continually moulting white Golden Retriever this afternoon...and there is hair everywhere!!
You can't really see the "circles" very well as I have been wearing thse socks all week and they are getting a bit "tired"...a bit like me!
Right off to line a curtain before NCIS comes on @ 9...ooops, just checked the time...perhaps after NCIS nowI'll get some of my ironing done instead!
Night, night, all!!

Those socks are lovely Keiss, I've knit two pairs using that pattern and it's great for self-striping wool.
I keep seeing lots of patterns I want to knit but steadfastly resisting until I've finished the socks I'm working on (and the cardigan but that's a longer term project)Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T
