I have long ago thrown away the cable needle as it used to drive me nuts and find that I can do cables with much less hassle than before.

  • That shawl looks lovely OrkneyStar. I like to have more than one thing on the go as well but am currently really focusing on finishing some socks I started ages ago. I've finished one pair and I'm working on a second pair I started in November. I have a cardigan to sew up and then I'm allowed to cast on a new project, probably another cardigan but preferably a seamless one.

Not as ages ago as I started mine! :rotfl:
I just checked back and it was the beginning of August and I'm stil on sock one. I had tidied them away so must get my knitting out where I can see it so I actually pick it up again! I did manage to finish a teacosy just before Christmas and I can't even think when I began that. I want to make some handwarmers next as there have been lovely piccies on here but am not letting myself till I make some sock progress! :D

Good luck sewing up your cardigan - I hate the sewing up bit.

Thanks everyone for sharing your piccies - all very inspiring! :T

    Morning everyone!

Wish me luck - I'm starting my first pair of socks today using the online tutorial somebody kindly posted here. I did start last night but found that tiredness, bleary-eyedness and sock-knitting are incompatible. I found the very fine wool and teeny tiny needles a bit weird but hopefully will get used to them.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

OK by started ages ago what I really mean is started before Christmas knitting and annoying time consuming life events took over and I shoved them to the bottom of my knitting basket!

I haven't loaded the photos of the finished pair onto my computer yet but these are the ones that are currently in progress. They are a darker purple than they look in the picture and I'm really enjoying knitting them, I'm using the magic loop technique and I'm also enjoying that, less risk of them dropping off the needles in my knitting bag!

I have gotten further than in that picture and have done another 20 rows or so of the second sock. I do find that if I knit both socks in the pair at the same time I actually get the pair finished quicker as I don't stop after one and feel like I can't be bothered knitting another exactly the same straight after!

I'm being really good this year, honest, I will knit with wool I already have as we're trying to save and like everyone are having to tighten our belts so I really can't afford to spend as much on wool, not when I've got a stupid amount already.

Lambanana...love the colour and pattern of socks....have decided that this year I may try the magic loop method of knitting socks, have been knitting for 60 years and feel that I have become very narrowminded in my outlook...."I have always done it this way and therefore will continue to do it this way" bad attitude so time to change I think!

Nuala....will be watching for news of sock progress.

One more baby cardigan to go and I can start on 2011 gifts.....with the wool I have in stock

I explained it briefly at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=35805841&postcount=2921 - but there are several video tutorials on-line.

So...you're knitting both at the same time, on Magic Loop, but - on two separate circular needles? If you're using ML anyway, why not put both socks on one long circular and knit them simultaneously - i.e. you do a round on both socks, then another round on both socks - rather than a bit of one, then switch to the other and a bit of that?
